IT professionals and Computer Science researchers are required to have both
a broad knowledge of the state-of-the-art technologies and techniques and
also a deeper understanding of several more specialised subjects.
The solution of real world problems such as those relating to climate change, medicine or financial affairs requires Computer Scientists with advanced skills and knowledge in modelling and algorithm design. It requires IT professionals able to apply cutting-edge systems development techniques such as the application of modern cloud computing. Our MSc in Advanced Computer Science is an ideal foundation for these kinds of careers.
You will undertake a substantial research project during the summer months, which offers you the opportunity to explore, in greater depth, a Computer Science topic of your choice. The project will enable you to demonstrate your ability to schedule, research, organise, report and present within the context of a specialist area. Projects are often carried out in conjunction with external companies.
The course covers a full year from September to August and consists of two parts: a taught component (September to May) during which you attend lectures, tutorials and practical sessions and a research project (May to August) which gives you the opportunity to apply the knowledge you have gained and pursue your own research interests.
You will study taught modules covering: algorithm design; advanced distributed systems; fundamentals of artificial intelligence; computational modelling; machine learning; language; and techniques for knowledge management.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
