Location of University of Chester

This is an intensive programme of academic study and work-based learning which combines the opportunity to achieve a Postgraduate Certificate and a new professional status. Early Years Professional Status (EYPS), is a status awarded to successful candidates who have demonstrated effective personal practice and leadership skills whilst working in the private, voluntary or independent Daycare sector.

The programme reflects the national agenda for developing a new children's workforce and to securing children's rights to have access to a highly qualified workforce.


Contents

Programme Structure

Students will study three modules, covering topics such as working with children under 3 years old, supporting young children's learning and development, reflective practice, leading and managing early years practice and safeguarding children.

Initially, students will spend three days each week in University, and two days each week in placement, rising to four days in placement later on.

Assessment for the Postgraduate Certificate is by coursework, and the 39 professional standards for EYPS are assesssed externally by the Childrens' Workforce Development Council (CWDC).

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

* Minimum of a lower second class honours degree, or equivalent
* Applicants must also have some experience of working with children in a paid or voluntary capacity
* Minimum of GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics is also required.
* In line with the CWDC requirements, all applicants will be interviewed and required to have CRB enhanced clearance.
