The master program in Human Rights and Multiculturalism is a two years (120 ECTS) interdisciplinary program focusing on human rights and culture at local, national, regional and international levels. The program is designed to accommodate students with degrees in different academic disciplines. It is also a post graduate degree course in teacher education.
Because human rights knowledge and awareness of the public are crucial elements in the realization of human rights, the study of human rights education and human rights in professional practice are important elements in the program. Through the course of study, the students will look at human rights from the perspectives offered by different cultures as well as academic disciplines and how human rights are to be perceived in the light of cultural diversity.
Students with a Master's degree in Human Rights and Multiculturalism from Buskerud University College will be able to work in public services and administration, education, media, humanitarian organisations, private corporations and as consultants. The students gain experience in interdisciplinary research, and will also be qualified to pursue academic research in the field of human rights and cultural diversity.
Contents
Structure of the program:
During the first semester the students complete three compulsory courses, each of 10 ECTS:
* Human Rights, other value systems and culture,
* Human Rights and multiculturalism issues in the implementation of national policies,
* Human Rights, multicultural diversity and the politics of recognition.
In the second semester the students chose three of the following electives:
* Theories of culture: advanced course,
* Variation in Human Rights respect across states,
* Human Rights and multiculturalism in international institutions and relations,
* Human Rights education in intercultural settings.
In their second year of study, the students develop their master's thesis. The second year also includes two compulsory courses:
* Human Rights and professional ethics
* Research methodology and thesis development.
IELTS
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Buskerud University College welcomes applications from foreign students. Selection is competitive and only the most qualified applicants are considered for admission.

Applicants must fulfil the basic entrance requirements for matriculation at a Norwegian institution of higher education. In addition to the basic entrance requirements, applicants for the Master's programmes must provide documentary evidence of the following:
* For Master's Degree programmes, the minimum requirement is three (3) years of study at university level, i.e. minimum Bachelor's Degree level (or equivalent).
Documentation of English language skills is required from non-native English speakers:
* TOEFL minimum score 550 (paper-based) / 213 (computer-based) / 80 (iBT)
* IELTS minimum band 6.0 academic test.
Applicants must document all their relevant education with officially certified copies of certificates, diplomas, transcripts etc. in the original language and authorised translations if the original documents are not in English or a Scandinavian language. Both upper secondary and higher education must be documented. Applicants must fulfil all requirements before 15.th April
The programme is eligible for funding through the Quota Scheme, and BUC welcomes applicants for the Quota scheme through BUC partner institutions.

The programme is accredited by NOKUT -The Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education. NOKUT is a professionally independent government agency, with the mandate of conducting external quality assurance of higher education and tertiary vocational education and generally contribute towards the enhancement of educational quality. NOKUT’s mandate covers both Norwegian and foreign qualifications:
