Electricity is becoming the main vector of energy transmission, replacing hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems. Indeed, electricity offers high efficiency and operating flexibility. This trend has been reinforced recently by the progress of power electronics for conversion, storage and distribution of electrical energy and by the development of renewable energy sources connected to power systems through power converters.
Facing to this evolution, a dedicated master program is offered by the department of Physics and Electrical Engineering at the University Joseph Fourier of Grenoble. It provides an advanced preparation for careers in engineering or research in the field of electrical engineering for power systems and power electronics. Main topics covered by the program are :
* Power electronics converters for renewable energy sources
* Design and protections of power networks
* Filtering and control of power systems
* ecodesign
* Methodologies and tools for designing high efficiency electrical systems and devices
The master program graduates an average of 20 students per year. The academic team is supported by one of the biggest electrical engineering lab in France called G2ELab. The industrial background is provided by a strong support of numerous industrial companies. Engineers of Schneider Electric teach some specialized courses in the areas of industrial system design.
First semester classes (from september to January)
* Modeling and control of power electronics structures (42 hours - 3 ECTS)
* Electrical systems control (20 hours - 3 ECTS)
* Industrial networks control (32 hours- 3 ECTS)
* Power electronics converters and their applications to renewable energy sources, uninterruptible power sources, FACTS (18 hours - 3 ECTS)
* Power systems protections (30 hours - 3 ECTS)
* Energy storage (28 hours 3 ECTS)
* Modeling and identification of power lines and cables (30 hours - 3 ECTS)
* Humanities (foreign language speaking course) (24 hours - 3 ECTS)
* Technological, economical and ecological design of electrical systems (48 hours - 3 ECTS)
* Integrated Project - Innovative methodology for designing an industrial (durée 100 hours - 15 ECTS)
Second semester classes (from february to june)
* Industrial internship (5 months - 18 ECTS)
Admission to the master program requires:
* to hold a first year of master in the field of electrical engineering
* or at least to have followed one year of post-graduate studies in the field of electrical engineering
