Location of Université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC)

The "Imaging" (IMA) specialization is designed to provide students with in-depth knowledge of the various fields relating to imaging. Courses cover the fundamentals of the discipline through to the most advanced techniques and are taught by UPMC Professor-Researchers, from LIP6 in particular, engineering schools (Télécom ParisTech, ENSTA), and by researchers from UPMC associate laboratories (i.e. at la Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital) and from LTCI.

The course meets the high demand of students for whom imaging is a highly attractive area of computer science and of the employment market, with respect to both research laboratories and the industry (image engineering services, multimedia, synthesis image, remote sensing, medical imaging, non-destructive testing, etc.). The In Vivo Imaging program is an original and attractive course involving not only professors of image processing but also researchers in medical imaging, biological imaging, neurosciences, etc., along with doctors and hospital physicians. This specialization incorporates the knowhow of:

The Computer Laboratory at Université Pierre & Marie Curie (LIP6),

The Information Processing and Communication Laboratory (LTCI) at Telecom ParisTech.

Opportunities
This specialization leads to careers in:

* Image processing research (including medical, biological, physics, remote sensing, video and multimedia applications etc.);
* University laboratory research;
* Industrial R&D;
* Research engineering;
* End-user companies (quality control, simulation, communication, press, advertising, museology, asset management);
* Biomedical imaging industry (acquisition system manufacturers);
* Health engineering services.

Contents

All the first year papers are worth 6 ECTS, including a substantial team project. The second year papers are all worth 3 ECTS, except for the end of year internship, which is worth 18 ECTS. The internship takes place either in a laboratory or in a company, and lasts a minimum of five months.

All the major´s specializations have both a research and a professional orientation. At the beginning of the course, students choose the specialization that will define the set of fundamental and technological knowledge that they wish to learn. There are set programs defined within each specialization to help students make their choice according to their personal and professional objectives.

The Computer Science major has been organized to promote double majors with mathematics, electronics and acoustics.

Specializations offered in M2:

* Electronic systems, computer systems (ex ACSI)
The specialization trains specialists in the design of circuits and integrated electronic systems, which are at the heart of most industrial equipment (automobile, telecommunications, gaming, whiteware, etc...).
* Artificial intelligence and decision (in French, IAD)
The IAD specialization trains information technology specialists who master the concepts, models and tools of artificial intelligence, decision support systems and operations research.
* Imaging (IMA)
The imaging specialization gives students advanced training in fields linked with imaging. It includes coherent programs ranging from the foundations of the discipline to the most advanced techniques.
* Networks
The networks specialization trains researchers in fields such as network design and telecommunications systems, transmission of media streams and the internet of the future. It also qualifies "generalist" network engineers, telecommunications systems developers and network and systems administrators.
* Distributed systems and applications (in French, SAR)
The SAR specialization trains specialists in design and development of distributed systems, capable of understanding and implementing the methods, techniques and mechanisms of the discipline.
* Science and technology of software (in French, STL)
The STL specialization trains specialists in development and monitoring of software applications, with a solid foundation in programming languages and algorithmic techniques.
* Bioinformatics and modeling

The IMA specialization offers three programs: * Advanced Image Processing (TAIM),

* In Vivo Imaging (IMV),

* Industrial Imaging (joint course with the SDI (Engineering Sciences) course):

Requirements

The unifying aspect of the specialization attracts students from different bachelor courses, thus involving managing heterogeneity while promoting the benefits of complementarity. The M2 program is open not only to students from the M1 IMA, but also to students from other specializations (i.e. IAD - Artificial Intelligence and Decision) on the condition that they meet basic requirements, and to students from Engineering Schools or from equivalent programs either in France or abroad.

Computer Science and Electronics students must have minimum skills in basic mathematics and mathematics and electronics (programming) students must have minimum skills in computer science. Such basic skills are generally acquired on computer science or mathematics and computer science bachelor courses (both on the UPMC Mathematics and Computer Science Program and on the Statistics and Computer Science program). Students on the Electronics bachelor course must have taken the mathematics tools and programming papers (in C in particular).
