All students attend the same courses in the first year, followed by a second year in which they choose among three orientations: Propulsion Systems Development, Vehicle System Development and Management of Industrial Processes. All three end with internships carried out either within a company or in a university department, and the preparation and presentation of an experimental thesis.
Starting from the 2010/11 academic year the course is held entirely in English, taking the name of MSc degree in Automotive Engineering.
The programme is divided into two semesters with an average of 30 academic credits in each.
The syllabus covers the following macro-areas:
- Theoretical and methodological foundations of technical and scientific subjects, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, informatics and industrial design;
- Engineering basics, including solid and fluid mechanics, applied physics, applied chemistry, operation and construction of machinery, electrical engineering, electronics and automated controls. Also included in basic engineering studies are modeling and numerical simulation techniques related to product design and manufacturing processes;
- Automotive systems: powertrain, chassis, body, including electrical and electronic systems; also addressed are issues of safety, emissions reduction and traffic management;
- Technologies, including processes for transformation of materials, machining of components and assembly;
- Management, including organisation and financial control of enterprises, management of industrial processes and marketing; instruction is also provided in protection of industrial rights and manufacturers' liability toward users, according to the laws in force internationally.
