Location of Tor Vergata University of Rome

The Master of Science in Economics offers a challenging and intensive academic
programme, taught entirely in English, aimed at preparing students for a career as
professional economists in the private or public sector as well as offering intensive
training to students interested in joining a PhD programme in Economics in Italy or
abroad.

The two-year programme combines indepth study of economic theory and careful study of real-world problems and institutions. It trains students in theoretical and applied economics at the highest level, through course work, participation in seminars, and supervised research within a supportive and international environment.

After two years of intensive training, students will be well-prepared as economists to start a career in:

  • research offices of national and international governmental economic institutions
  • large corporations
  • large banks
  • financial institutions and research centres

Requirements

Eligibility criteria: a three-year Bachelor degree obtained in the area of economics, finance, business administration and management, engineering, mathematics, physics, political science, statistics or a foreign degree deemed equivalent by the Faculty of Economics.

Application period:

Until September 15 (For foreign students: we would suggest you complete the online application as soon as possible with your transcript (exam list), Curriculum Vitae, motivation letter and details of referee for your reference letter in our link.)

Selection

The selection process is based on the following documents:

  • Summary of the online application
  • Student record including exams passed and marks in the undergraduate as well as any other postgraduate programmes. Please include a table explaining the grading system used in the home university which indicates the minimum and maximum achievable scores.
  • Curriculum Vitae of the applicant
  • Motivation letter by the applicant in English
  • Reference letter

N.B. Applicants are required to be fluent in spoken and written English.

Admissions process

All applications are made online by uploading the required documentation. Once all the documentation is complete, the applicant will be contacted by the Admissions Office to confirm receipt and request further documents if required. Following the Admission Board´s evaluation of the application, the applicant will be informed of the selection results. Non-EU applicants, EU nationals and EU-Equated citizens who are successful in this phase must then complete the pre-enrolment procedures (see website for more information).

Pre-enrolment

Non-EU applicants who reside outside Italy need go to the competent Italian diplomatic authorities in their home country to complete the pre-enrolment procedures. Students are advised to contact the aforesaid authorities for detailed information. For more information, please email to:

EU nationals and EU-Equated citizens do not need a visa to study in Italy. However, they do need to contact the competent Italian diplomatic authorities for the issue of the legal translation and the legalisation of the qualification, which may take some time. They must present their original study qualification/s and the related documents when they arrive in Italy in September.

Funding details

Laziodisu Scholarship

ADISU means "Azienda per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario". It is an agency in each Italian region; it has the task to set up and run the necessary welfare services for students. LAZIODISU is an agency for students welfare services in Lazio region.

School of Economics

  • Scholarships for Merit

The Faculty of Economics provide special scholarships based on the merit for students of Master of Science programmes. The tuition fee of € 2500 will be refunded by this scholarship.

  • Competition for Part-Time Job at University

The selection of 66 part-time positions for the 2010/2011 (also for the academic year 2011/2012 it is expected to be the same number of positions) academic year is reserved for students of the School of Economics.

Competition for Grant of Non-European Mobility

The University of Rome "Tor Vergata" offers the possibility of studying at universities outside Europe. This opportunity is given for students who study in a partner university with which the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" has signed cooperation agreements. A period of study lasts one semester. It is therefore necessary to choose courses that are compatible with your program of study, attend classes and pass the examinations.

Scholarship for Thesis Abroad

For the 16 scholarships deadline is the 11th of March 2011. The scholarships are only for students who are graduating the Master degree.

Italian Government Study Grants

Study grants are awarded by the Italian Government to foreigners as a contribution toward their studies and research in Italy, aiming at spreading the Italian language, culture and sciences abroad and at promoting cultural, economic and technological cooperation worldwide.

Invest your Talent in Italy Scholarship

Indian and Turkish students are eligible for “Invest your Talent in Italy” scholarships which cover tuition fees and provide a 8,000 euro yearly fellowship. Students can apply only once admitted to the Master of Science programme of their choice.

Laziodisu Award of University Degree

The winners of the scholarship in the academic year 2009/2010 (it is expected that for the academic year 2010/2011 conditions will be the same), enrolled in the Bachelor degree, second level degree or master degree within the legal duration of the course may benefit an additional amount equal to 50% of the final scholarship obtained.

Competition for the Award of two Prizes in Memory of Dr. Carlo Leuzzi

The "Carlo Leuzzi Fund" iniciates a competition to award two fellows of the amount of € 5,000.00 who are graduating one of the Universities of Rome - "La Sapienza", "Tor Vergata" and "Roma Tre".

The Municipality of Monte Compatri

The Municipality of Monte Compatri with the Faculties of Economics and Engineering of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, have implemented the project "N.4 Convension on Local Advanced Technologies – Monte Compatri Hi Tech" in the year 2010, to select 4 undergraduate or recent graduate fellows to be employed in companies in the Municipality of Monte Compatri.

The period of the loan cannot be longer than 36 months (within 36 months loan has to be returned). The duration of the loan has to be specified before signing the contract. There are no other charges to be paid except interest and taxes required by law.

Refectory

In order to improve the living conditions for the students the University of Rome ’’Tor Vergata’’ manages the refectory located in Via Cambridge 115 providing the students with meal service.
