The Globalization and Corporate Development Programme is designed for those engaged with or planning a career in international professional contexts relating to the political and economic management and regulation of multinational enterprises. Whether as an advisor, researcher or manager with multinational enterprises, an international civil servant, a member of non-profit organizations or government departments, or a future academic, this interdisciplinary programme specifically addresses the requirements of those wishing to deepen their theoretical and practical understanding of the role and workings of large corporations in the global economy and international affairs.

The programme is an important interdisciplinary development that focuses on a core aspect of globalization from a new perspective: It creates a forum for the teaching and learning of both theoretical and practical aspects of the evolution of multinational enterprises in shaping contemporary global politics, international production patterns and regulatory frameworks.

The programme aims at:

  • enabling graduate students to acquire the knowledge, understanding, skills and aptitudes necessary to proceed to careers in cross-cultural and international professional contexts relating to the political and economic management and regulation of multinational enterprises (MNEs), in the public, private and non-profit sectors.
  • providing learning opportunities to enable graduate students to acquire the interdisciplinary knowledge to undertake further advanced studies in the area of the international management and regulation of global capitalism
  • to contribute to university objectives by providing high quality research training to an increasing number of postgraduate students and enhancing their key skills and employability
  • to provide a qualification which fully meets the requirements of the Higher Qualifications Framework at Masters Level.

Contents

The proposed programme consists of a dedicated applied core course, a dedicated theory course an additional full unit course to be chosen from the MA ISD courses (except for General Diplomatic Studies and Practice) or an elective and a dissertation on a topic related to the programme's core themes.
