The MA in Dramatherapy is a two-year part-time (currently under review) course offered by the Department of English to meet the needs of mature students who wish to qualify as dramatherapists. Upon completion of this course, students will have a solid background in dramatherapy studies as well as a practical dramatherapeutic skills base, with which to practice as fully qualified dramatherapists. Graduates of the course will be qualified for immediate placement as Professional Arts Therapists, within a variety of settings. Students will be expected to undergo personal therapy to meet the requirements of the Professional Organisation.
At the core of Dramatherapy practice lies the experience of personal transformation through group and/or individual work using drama activities with the intention of facilitating change. On this course students will study, explore, experience, practice and develop the necessary theoretical and clinical framework for facilitating and evaluating this process.
Modules and assignments will include: Dramatherapy Theory, Practice and Process; Psychotherapy and Counselling skills; The Arts Therapies; Preparatory Analytical Studies, Introduction to Drama; Drama, Theatre and Performance Skills; Drama and Mythology; Clinical Practice with different client groups i.e. Learning Disability, Community Care, Mental Health, Education etc. Special Focus Workshops; Playback Theatre and Psychodrama. Research Methodologies and specific research methodologies for the Arts Therapies.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Graduates and people with professional training, such as Social Studies, Nursing, Teaching etc.
Candidates with a degree or qualification in Drama, Theatre Studies and Performance Arts.
Candidates with specific qualifications, but who have developed extensive work experience in related fields involving work with client groups. i.e. Special Needs.
Applicants must have an IELTS score of 6, if not they may take our International
Foundation Course. Minimum English language requirement for the IFC is IELTS 4.5 or equivalent.
