This course provides an authoritative introduction to the disciplines of military history and strategic studies. It will address important issues relating to contemporary security and strategy in addition to examining key features of the history of warfare since the eighteenth century.

The course introduces the key concepts, theories, debates and issues within the field and will equip students with the knowledge and skills required to develop a sophisticated understanding of the history and conduct of war, of contemporary strategy and of current Irish and European security policies.

The course will appeal to those interested in history, international relations, security studies and war studies. However, no specialist prior knowledge is required. The modular nature of the course, its availability on either a part-time or a full-time basis and the fact that it is taught through evening classes make the course accessible to the widest range of students.
