The taught MLitt in Modern Thought is designed to offer students an introduction to the intellectual culture and distinctive approaches of the Centre for Modern Thought. It affords students a considerable freedom in the composition of a course programme, and thus the possibility of exploring the rich opportunities available in this cross-disciplinary research centre. The MLitt is the equivalent of the North American Masters degree.
The Centre for Modern Thought has grown rapidly in the past three years, and has attracted significant attention on the global academic stage by reason of its distinguished participants and the breadth of its ambition. In its activities, it traverses the fields of literature, philosophy, theory of art and contemporary visual culture, legal thought, political thought, and science studies. The range of research possibilities grows constantly. At the same time, we seek firm grounds for cross-disciplinary study through rigorous theoretical enquiry and a strong emphasis on intellectual history. In many respects, this project represents an effort to give a new footing to contemporary theoretical research. It also seeks to create a new interface between the academy and other sectors of public cultural and political activity.
