Since 1992 the Norwegian School of Hotel Management has offered a MSc in International Hotel and Tourism Leadership and is currently the only institution in Norway offering the master programme in English.
The study programme will provide you with an in-depth understanding of international hotel, restaurant and tourism themes and issues. Individual learning and personal improvement is stimulated through tailored courses with an emphasis on problem-based learning. Students are expected to participate actively in every phase of this internationalised programme.
The graduates will possess:
* Management skills in hotel, tourism and service organisations with specific focus on collaboration, motivation and performance improvement in order to achieve short and long-term goals successfully.
* Ability to contribute in international networks, interpret complex contexts and be aware of multicultural differences.
* Understanding of the underlying factors that creates and develop service organisations to sustainable ventures
* Critical thinking ability to be applied in everyday situations and an understanding of the balance between theory and practice.
The programme also provides you with necessary academic foundations to proceed to a PhD.
Introduction
The master programme is designed to prepare students for career entry or management positions in commercial, public or non-profit organisations providing visitor services at the local, national, or international level. Successful candidates will during this two year programme have gained appropriate knowledge in general leadership theories and their implementation in the hotel, restaurant and tourism industries.

The Norwegian School of Hotel Management (NHS) is the second oldest hotel school in the world. We have offered education to hospitality professionals since 1912. Since 1992, NHS has offered an MSc in International Hotel and Tourism administration and is currently the only institution in Norway offering a Master in International Hotel and Tourism Leadership in English.
Target group
The target group for this programme is those students who have previously fulfilled a bachelor degree in hotel, hospitality, restaurant, tourism, general business or equivalent, and are aiming for a higher level education in hotel, restaurant or tourism leadership.
All course literature and teaching will be in English.
Most courses use a range of teaching formats covering lectures, tutorials, seminars and case study workshops and presentation sessions. Course material typically includes books, articles and online resources. Students will also be asked to participate in fieldtrips and research experiments. The students will be held responsible for their own learning and will be required to participate in intensive courses with a large degree of independent work.

Assessment procedures vary from course to course and are specified in advance. It is important for students to read the course descriptions and familiarise themselves with the assessment procedures.

The courses use the Internet-based system It´s learning as a communication channel between academic staff and students. The use of It´s learning allows you to access notes and updates to course syllabus and also to collaborate with other students who are connected to the web.
Please note that a minimum number of students is required for a course to be delivered.
The University of Stavanger has a well-stocked research library within hospitality and tourism with more than 3000 books and numerous academic journals.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Applicants must have a Bachelor´s Degree in hospitality, tourism, economics or an equivalent and relevant first degree. A Bachelor´s Degree in a closely related field is prioritised only when the applicant has exceptionally high grades.
Proficiency in English is required of all students in Norway. Foreign students, who are not native speakers of English, have to document their knowledge of English with one of the following tests: TOEFL or IELTS.
