The Master's degree study programme goes on for three semesters. The first semester offers you a deepening of knowledge that has been acquired in your former undergraduate programme with respect to biotechnology and chemical / process engineering. Biotechnology will especially be focused on cell biology and cell culture techniques. In chemical / process engineering we will discuss mathematical modelling of thermal and chemical equilibrium processes including energy, momentum and mass transfer - as modelling and process simulation is common practice in process design, erection and operation. Last but not least there will be a class on modern advanced laboratory analytical and separation methods. Up-to-date elective courses either technical or non-technical add to the curriculum.
During second semester you will have the chance to solve a complex problem in team work. Problem solving in the team will be supported by your supervising professor giving you the necessary scientific background. You will employ resources you need either experimentally or numerically in our modern equipped laboratories. Working on the project you will develop your team qualities and project management skills.
You will dedicate the third semester to the master thesis. Here you can choose to work in industry or to participate in an ongoing research project at the University of Applied Sciences Flensburg.

Admission to the Master's study programme follows the official study regulations.

* Applicants will be admitted to the master study programme * if they have successfully graduated from a Bachelor or Diploma study programme Biotechnology and Chemical / Process Engineering or
* if they have appropriate work experience of at least two years or

* Applicants from similar study programmes may be admitted to the master study programme according to the decision of the programme admission board. The board may require these applicants to participate in additional classes besides the regular curriculum.
* Applicants from similar study programmes inside the EU with 180 credits (ECTS) will have to achieve another 30 credits. This can be done after admission to the programme at University of Applied Sciences Flensburg following the requirements given by the admission board or before admission at your former univer-sity. However, in the latter case, it is advisable to discuss appropriate topics of study with the board.

Comment: EU regulations for the master degree require a total of 300 credits ECTS usually achieved in a combination of consecutive bachelor and master study programmes either in a 180 + 120 or 210 + 90 credit partitioning among the programmes.
Non EU applicants may not be concerned with these regulations as long as they do not want to graduate with a master degree fully compliant to EU regulations. In case they wanted, they would have to transfer credits from their former university into ECTS credits.
