Wind is one of the renewable energy sources with the highest growth potential. The federal state of Schleswig-Holstein has a global leading position with more than 5,000 employees. With the extention of wind energy use a further increase of the installed capacity can be expected, especially in the offshore area.
The wind industry needs technical generalists as System Engineers. With its concept, the Master's degree course in Wind Engineering paves the way - as demanded by the relevant industry - off from the pure specialist towards the interdisciplinary system-oriented generalist with an individual specialisation. The graduate achieves the qualification to survey both early and new models of wind turbines and wind power systems as a whole. This includes particularly the planning, construction and operation of such installations and its components.
At the initiative of the Center of Excellence for Windenergy Schleswig-Holstein (CEwind) the degree course is supported by the leading experts of six Univesities: The Faculty of Engineering of the Christian-Albrechts University Kiel, den University of Flensburg, the faculties of engineering of the Universities of Applied Sciences Kiel, Flensburg and Westküste as well as the private higher education institution Nordakademie.
Wind Engineering covers subjects of study in the fields of Mechanics, Electro Technics, Economics and Environment. All lectures are complemented with extensive hands-on training on commercial up-to-date software systems.
Graduates of this course will find a wide range of opportunities and openings in wind turbine and component manufactures, engineering and consulting offices, bank and insurance companies, public authorities, wind farm industry and research institutions.
