The Masters in Applied Social Studies provides academic progression to students who are qualified both academically and professionally, in youth work and community work and have three years post-qualifying experience in the field.
In exceptional circumstances those qualified in allied disciplines with substantial youth work or community work experiences may be accepted.
It is placed at Level 9 on the NQF. The MA Applied Social Studies is particularly suitable to those who wish to deepen their understandings of the applied social sciences (for their professional disciplines), reflect on practice issues, as well as develop relevant research and writing skills.
This is not a professional youth work or community work qualification.

The programme will take place over two semesters full-time, or four semesters part-time in a format designed to facilitate those who are working/and or travelling. It will be delivered through two or three day blocks in NUI Maynooth. The blocks will take place at four to six week intervals approximately.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Participation is open to those who have:
a BA (other primary degrees may be approved), and, in addition, the NUI Higher Diploma in Community Work (or equivalent qualification) with an overall mark of at least 55% or the BA (Applied Social Studies) of the NUI (or equivalent degree) with at least Second Class Honours. Equivalent professional qualifications or degrees incorporating professional qualification should generally be in community & youth work.

In exceptional circumstances those qualified in allied disciplines with substantial youth work or community work experiences may be accepted.
