This is a two-year full time programme designed for honours graduates who may not have taken major accounting specialisms in their undergraduate studies, but who wish to pursue a professional accounting qualification. The programme modules are designed so as to mirror, in terms of standard and complexity, the syllabi of the CAP1 and CAP2 examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. First year students are required to achieve an average of at least 60% in their first-year modules to remain on the course. One of the principal objectives of the programme is that graduates will, on successful completion of the programme, have entitlement to CAP1 and CAP2 exemptions and equivalent exemptions from other professional accountancy bodies. Course co-ordinators will work closely with the professional accountancy bodies to ensure that the content and direction of all course modules also help prepare students for the final stages of the professional accounting examinations.
Career options:
Prospective employers include professional accountancy firms, corporate recovery, regulatory agencies, NGOs, and the government service. These employers will have access to a group of high achievers with full CAP1 and CAP2 exemptions (thus minimising future study leave requirements) who have been intellectually challenged by the depth of the programme.
The aim of this programme is to provide students with the key competencies required by a professional accountant in an ever-changing business and ethical environment. Students will be encouraged to develop critical and analytical skills and apply their knowledge to unstructured situations.
