This two-year part-time postgraduate diploma will enhance the professional development of teachers in a collaborative and supportive environment. It gives teachers the critical space to explore and reflect upon their practices in the school, contextualising these experiences within educational theory, pedagogy and policy. It offers an opportunity for critical reflection on what you have experienced and the exploration of new ideas and opportunities.
Themes within the programme focus on the school as a learning environment, and explore issues of equality and diversity in education. The course enables participants to explore the nature of quality in teaching and learning, and to undertake a research project on an educational issue of interest to them. A wide variety of methodologies - lectures, seminars, reflective practice, workshops and policy seminars - are used throughout in a supportive environment.
The course is designed to fit the schedule of teachers and involves attendance at lectures at NUI Maynooth for one evening per week (currently Wednesdays), during the academic terms.
Numbers admitted to this course are limited to facilitate collaborative and interactive engagement by participants. Interviews will be held with prospective candidates.
