This postgraduate course offers a broad range of advanced subjects across the mechanical engineering disciplines. Particular emphasis is placed on the application of computational methods and packages in mechanical engineering analysis, design and manufacture. Through selecting modules from a wider range of options, the course can be individually tailored to ensure that it meets your particular needs and interests. It is aimed at graduate engineers who wish to pursue a career in industry using advanced engineering techniques or those wishing to gain in depth knowledge for a career in research in industry or academia.
Graduates from the School of Mechanical Engineering are highly-employable and are sought after by many prestigious companies. Recent graduates from the School can be found in organisations such as, Crompton Technology Group Ltd, Bombadier Transportation, Depuy International, Bentley Motors Ltd, Jaguar, Nissan Motors, Faraday Packaging Partnership, Airbus, EAS Engineering, Prodrive, Ricardo UK and Ford Motor Company.
You will study taught modules covering: energy systems engineering; computational and experimental methods; finite element methods analysis; aerospace structures; rotary wing aircraft; combustion in engines; automotive driveline engineering; biomaterials; aerospace structures.
As well as studying taught modules, you also undertake a professional project which is chosen by you and undertaken in association with one of the School's world class research groups. A member of staff is assigned as supervisor.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

A degree equivalent to a UK upper second class honours (2.1) degree or higher in engineering, a physical science or mathematics.
English language requirements
If English is not your first language, you are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English. You will need to meet our minimum requirements for one of the following recognised English language tests: the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS), the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the Pearson Test of English Academic.
2012 entry requirements for all masters courses
IELTS: 6.5 with not less than 6.0 in listening, reading, speaking and writing.
TOEFL - Internet based test: 94 with at least 21 in listening, 23 in reading and speaking and 24 in writing
Pearson: 64 on PTE Academic, with at least 60 in each of the skills
