Location of Wageningen University

Consumer affairs is a world-rising field in research and higher education. It analyses consumers in their economic, social and ecological environment. The demand from corporate and governmental sectors as well as consumer organizations for higher education graduates in the field of Consumer Affairs is very high.

The purpose of this new specialisation within MME is to improve the supply of highly educated and qualified employees in the field of Consumer Affairs. For this reason Wageningen University will offer European Consumer Affairs together with the Aarhus University (Denmark), the Technische Universität München (Germany) and Warsaw University of Life Sciences (Poland). The language of instruction will be English and students will be encouraged to spend a semester at a Partner University as an exchange student with a generous grant and the possibility to graduate with a double degree within four semesters (two years).

EURECA is a master´s programme for students who are interested in consumers in their economic, social and ecological environments. Applicants should have at least a bachelor´s degree in socio-economics (e.g. business administration, economics and sociology) or in science/engineering with a Consumer Affairs orientation.

Beside the basics of Consumer Affairs (36 ECTS), students are required to choose two out of the following seven specializations:

* Consumer Studies (Wageningen)
* Consumer Technology and Innovation (Munich)
* Food Policy and Management (Warsaw)
* Marketing (Aarhus)
* Marketing Management (Wageningen)
* Sustainable Consumption (Munich)

The specialisations `Consumer Studies´ and `Marketing Management´ are offered by Wageningen University.

Exchange possibility:

1 semester at a partner university, supported by grants amounting to 500 euros/month (max. 20 student grants per EURECA-University and year)

Career opportunities

Upon graduation, students will be academically trained consumer experts primarily in the fields of their specialisations. They will be able to seek employment at a wide variety of employers, including companies and their affiliates, government agencies, consumer associations, research institutes and consultancies. EURECA offers students the best chances in companies and institutions with a European and international orientation, especially after having participated in an exchange programme or by graduating with a double degree.

Consumer Studies

The Consumer Studies specialisation allows students to gain insight into the economic and sociological aspects of consumers and households as well as the factors determining consumption behavior and patterns.


Marketing Management

Marketing Management allows students to focus on the various aspects of marketing in agribusiness and the food industry. They investigate and analyse the strategies and operations of companies in marketing, as well as the dynamic decision making processes involved in this.

Requirements

General admission requirements

Students who wish to enrol in the MSc Programme at Wageningen University must have:

* At least a BSc degree (or equivalent) in a field of science relevant to the specific programme selected.
* A Grade Point Average (GPA) for the BSc study of at least 70% of the maximum scale.
* Fluency in English, both written and spoken. * IELTS overall grade 6.0 (minimum sub score of 6.0 for speaking)
* TOEFL paper-based 550, computer-based 213, internet-based 79-80
* Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): pass at grade C
* Cambridge First Certificate (FCE): pass at grade B/C


* Good skills in mathematics and/or statistics.
* Basic computer skills.

Specific admission requirements

here are specific requirements for the EURECA specialisation in addition to the general admission requirements.

If you choose to only do an exchange at one of the partner universities, you should have at least 30 ECTS in socio-economical courses. If you would like to get a double degree, you should have at least 60 ECTS in socio-economical courses in order to be admitted to Wageningen University.

If students with Wageningen University as their home university would like go to Aarhus University for their exchange or double degree, then there are additional requirements.

Application for students with Wageningen as their home university

Steps to enrollment:

* Assessment of your educational background: a list of all the courses that you have followed in your Bachelor programme is required to assess if you fulfill the EURECA requirements. This should be emailed to mme.msc@wur.nl before the 1st of June for EU students and 15th of May for non-EU students.

* Registration and application for MME: a registration and application for the Master Management, Economics and Consumer Studies is necessary to enroll for EURECA, because EURECA is a specialization of this MSc. programme.
