This course is designed for professionals working within sport development settings such as o local authorities o county sport partnerships o national governing bodies o professional sports clubs o voluntary organisations o private sector consultants.

It is for people who want to develop their theoretical, academic and practical skills to understand, lead and manage changes in sport.

You must have good communication skills, leadership qualities and an interest in working in public, private or voluntary sport settings.

Managing the rapid changes taking place in sport development, and the relationship with numerous providers of sport and physical activity is crucial, for the successful implementation of government strategies. It requires highly qualified and skilled professionals with excellent leadership qualities.

Requirements

Normally a 2.1 honours degree in a relevant sport, education or management discipline with some sport development work experience, although candidates are considered on an individual basis.

We may accept other qualifications if you can show an appropriate level of relevant work experience.

The course leader normally interviews applicants with non-standard qualification to discuss their individual cases. Acceptance may depend on the successful completion of an individually tailored bridging programme.

We are looking for individuals who have an underpinning knowledge of sport development who now want to enhance and further apply their knowledge. You should be capable of developing into a self-motivated, sport development manager, and have the interpersonal skills to work with individuals and groups in a professional setting.

International students

You must also be proficient in English, typically shown by IELTS level 6.0 with no unit below 5.5 or TOEFL 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based), or 100 (internet-based).
