The Master of Science in Economics at the Radboud University Nijmegen offers more than just degree in economics: it is `Economics Plus´. Due to our excellent research reputation at home and abroad, we can guarantee that you will be participating in a state-of-the-art programme. You will be exposed to all of the most recent academic and practical developments in the field. Moreover, you will subsequently acquire in-depth knowledge that can be applied in today´s globalized business world, but the main advantage of the Nijmegen programme in Economics is its strong methodological orientation. Education is always up to date with the latest academic developments, providing you with the possibility to develop your research skills, and to participate in academic research on economic developments during your programme in Nijmegen.

If you decide to address contemporary issues in Economics, either from an accounting point of view, or from a financial or international perspective, it is crucial to evaluate societal developments by reflecting on your academic background. The Nijmegen programme in Economics increases your incentive to understand, evaluate and improve economic decision making. In addition, the programme will teach you how to think independently and critically about the way in which economics, accountancy and control can be applied in a professional sense.

Employers are increasingly looking for economists and accounting and control specialists who can tackle a wide variety of economic problems in a professional manner. Economists who have international backgrounds are even more welcome. Our graduates work in a variety of industries. Because our students in Economics specialize in sub-disciplines, their future careers will differ. The main employers of our graduates are central banks, ministries, (investment) banks, international agencies, consulting firms, pension funds, and accounting firms.

You will take courses that make up the field of specialisation that you have chosen:

  • Accounting & Control

The Masters track in Accounting & Control aims at educating students to become professional controllers, auditors and/or financial managers. This track also establishes a sound basis for competencies that enable students to perform scientific research in the field of governance and control. Accounting & Control focuses on themes related to corporate governance, accounting systems, evolution of control systems, management accounting and financial accounting.

  • Financial Economics

The spectacular growth of international capital markets, resulting from the liberalization of financial markets and institutions in the United States, Europe and elsewhere, is creating a major challenge for financial decision-makers within internationally operating companies. The Financial Economics specialisation is designed to educate students about a wide variety of questions related to financial decisions (management-related and otherwise) that companies and investors have to make.

  • International Economics

Over the past two decades, international flows of capital and trade have grown tremendously, in parallel with the growing influence of international organisations on local developments. The International Economics specialisation offers courses on international trade and investment, globalisation, financial systems and economic growth.

  • International Economics & Business

Over the past two decades, international flows of capital and trade have grown tremendously in parallel with the growing influence of international organisations on the behaviour of firms. The International Economics & Business specialisation offers courses on international trade and investment, globalisation, financial systems, international organisations and the behaviour of firms with respect to the international environment.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

  • a Bachelor degree in Economics or a closely-related discipline from a research university, with a fair number of courses in your preferred specialization. For example: Accounting, Micro and Macro Economics, International Economics and academic Research and Data-analysis courses.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English: a TOEFL score of at least 550 for the paper-based test, 213 for the comuter-based test, 80 for internet-based test or IELTS 6 for non-native speakers of English.

The ERANET - Mundus project offers a selected number of talented prospective Russian students the opportunity to receive a scholarship to pursue an English-taught Master's degree programme at Radboud University Nijmegen.

Programmes under the auspices of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science

Netherlands Fellowship Programme: This Fellowship Programme offers scholarships for selected NFP programmes including selected programmes of Radboud University Nijmegen.

Dutch study grant system: EU/EEA students who wish to take a degree programme in the Netherlands can sometimes be eligible for a Dutch student grant.

STUNED: The Stuned programme is applicable to postgraduate students from Indonesia.
