Human Geography is a research field which focuses on studying the spatial behavior of people, firms and organizations, and serves as an excellent platform for integrating knowledge from various related disciplines, such as Sociology, Psychology, International Relations, Economics, Business Administration and Development Studies. Simply put, Human Geography it is a study that observes the relationship between human activities and their spatial environment. This programme is very flexible and students can fully tailor the programme to their personal interests, but can also choose from predefined specializations.
The master programme in Human Geography can also be taken in a dual study mode (1,5 year). This means that you combine studying with paid work in a function which fits to the academic level and interests in the human geographic profession. A so called 'red tread assignment' will structure your research, conducted in the framework of your work, at the professional organization and will finally result in the master thesis. For this purpose we have pre-selected a number of possible employers active in the field of human geography.
If you are interested in a career as scientific researcher, you can enhance your master education with a research training programme (2 years). You will deepen your knowledge and skills in the field of philosophy of science, research methodology, research project management and, of course, in the field of your specific master specialization. Students can also go abroad for research as a part of this programme. To be accepted in this enhancing research training programme you will have to fulfill strict criteria.
