This course is for o mental health practitioners o registered social workers o occupational therapists o nurses o midwives working in areas of mental health.
It combines academic qualifications with post qualifying social work (PQSW) awards. The
* postgraduate certificate includes the PQSW Consolidation
* postgraduate diploma includes the PQSW Higher Specialist Award
* masters includes PQSW Advanced Award
You learn how to work effectively and confidently within the current legal and policy framework. We focus on social perspectives and the contributions of service users and carers. This enables you to contribute to local and national practice and policy development.
The flexible course design supports you in your workplace and you can study at a pace that suits you and your employer.
We base your learning on your own work experiences, so the knowledge you gain relates directly to the day-to-day challenges you face.
Our assessments require you to apply theoretical learning to your work practice, and include o presentations o vivas o reviews o written reports and essays.
Assignments are usually based on real workplace issues. This may involve researching or implementing a work-based change or development and receiving feedback from it. You have the support of our staff and your peers, as you complete these projects.
For some modules, you need a workplace supervisor or manager to support you. You organise this before beginning the course.
A key focus of the course is the reflection on your own and others´ professional development. You regularly review your development needs, and the planning and management of strategies for further learning and progression.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

* a degree, or relevant equivalent professional qualification
* a professional role or access to sustained contact with mental health services, or a closely related setting
* at least six months´ post qualifying experience
* evidence of meeting the 10 essential shared competencies (NIMHE) in practice
* enhanced criminal records bureau clearance
* a reference from an employer confirming support arrangements and suitability
* eligibility for post qualifying awards - registration as social worker by the GSCC
If English is not your first language, you need in all components (reading, writing, listening and speaking) an IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL (paper) 600.
