With an increasingly ageing population, the need for strong research into cognitive ageing and the impact of intelligence on health through the life-course is growing. There is now a need for medically qualified research professionals in ageing.
This Postgraduate Certificate in Cognitive Ageing Research Methods for Medical Scientists will help medical scientists develop:
* critical knowledge and understanding of classic and up-to-date findings in cognitive ageing and cognitive epidemiology;
* a critical knowledge and understanding of research methods that may be applied to the study of cognitive ageing;
* an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the research governance framework covering cognitive ageing research;
* the intellectual skills to critically appraise cognitive ageing studies;
* the intellectual and practical skills to plan, design and carry out cognitive ageing research;
* the ability to undertake critically reflective study across a broad range of research methodologies.
* The Certificate will equip students with a comprehensive knowledge base in cognitive ageing and cognitive epidemiology research techniques.
It will cover a range of cognitive ageing related topics including cognitive epidemiology, human cognitive ageing, stress hormones and cognitive ageing, animal models of cognitive ageing and neural health, research methodologies and governance (genetics and statistics of brain ageing, and brain imaging), and will include a research project.
Training will provide students with a strong base of research skills with which to develop a research portfolio in cognitive ageing.
A variety of delivery methods will be employed, but the core material will be delivered via a virtual learning environment.
Elements of the programme will also be available as stand-alone non-award-bearing CPD courses for other doctors and related professionals.
