IE School of Communication’s Master in Digital Journalism is designed to equip students with ample knowledge on new and current approaches to digital journalism and new media. This encompasses learning how to work on writing and reporting for new digital media, developing multimedia journalistic projects and creating original approaches to strategy and production processes. The program offers participants to choose one area of specialization: Business, Sports or Political Journalism
Program welcomes graduates with backgrounds in different disciplines such as Economics, Business, Journalism, Media, Communication, International Relations, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, as well as Communication, Marketing or History
Contents
The Master in Digital Journalism is an intensive, one-year program divided into three periods that run from October to December, January to March and April to July. Students will be attending all course content units at our IE campus in Madrid, with a number of MediaLab sessions at our campus in Segovia.
The program comprises 4 core units and a final project which will cover the following subjects:
Module 1 - Digital Journalism and New Media Environment (Lectures, seminars, practical exercises)
* Focus on learning how to think and work in a flexible and original way within the new media: a digital, globalized and evolving journalism.
* Courses in essentials of digital journalism, critical issues in journalism, multimedia reporting and writing, new media and media convergence, trends in digital media, online platforms, audiovisual workshop, designing and planning digital information projects, critical and creative skills applied to journalism, and measuring and analyzing internet audiences
Module 2 - Entrepreneurial Journalism (Lectures, seminars, practical exercises)
* Specific training in entrepreneurial skills applied to journalism: development of new business models, organizational and managerial abilities.
* Courses applied to digital journalism in entrepreneurial management, new business models, financial accounting, organizational management, advertising and marketing, fund raising, negotiation and business strategy, and legal implications.
Module 3 - Specialization Track (Economics & Business, Politics or Sports)
* Three tracks to develop applied and practical skills in reporting, writing and editing for digital journalism. The format will be hands-on: experienced working journalists will coach students’ work in the area of business and economic journalism, political journalism and sports journalism. This work will lead to the preparation of the final project.
Module 4 - Final Project (Group or individual)
* Final applied project: individual or team applied journalistic project, in line with the specialty. The practical exercises during the Master will converge in creating this project, under the coaching of professionals in the field.
