Why choose this course?

* If you are working in the community & voluntary sector
* If you want to take more responsibility in your own organisation
* If you are looking for a move to a more challenging position in another agency
* If you care about people enough to do something for them
* If you see peoples’ need for education, support, welfare
* If you are excited about culture, health, youth, art, music, sport
* If you know that you have much to give to community, to society, to the public

Then you will want to learn about efficient and effective management of non-profit organisations.

We want to help you learn the theory and skills of management, leadership, human resources, policy design, financial administration, strategic planning, marketing, funding and decision-making in non-profit groups.

How do we learn in this course?

We relate the theory and practice of voluntary and community management to your own organisations, or an organisation with which you are sufficiently familiar. You can reflect on your own experience as a manager or employee or volunteer in the community and voluntary sector, set it alongside theory or best practice as you learn it, and plan for change, both in your place of work and in your own career.

Our approach is inter-disciplinary and interactive, using an adult model of learning. Lectures are an important element but you will be involved, as well, in case studies, group presentation, multi-media, research and in significant reflection on these experiences. You will prepare an individual research project or dissertation is presented for August of your final year.

What is the award for this course?

The award for the full course (90 ECTS credits) is a Master of Arts in Management: Voluntary and Community Services, and it is conferred by Dublin City University, of which All Hallows is a linked college.

It is possible for you to leave the course after 30 credits (approximately a year part-time) with a Certificate in Management: Voluntary and Community Services.

It is possible to exit after 60 credits (approximately two year part-time course-work) without attempting the Research Project or Dissertation with a Diploma in Management: Voluntary and Community Services.

During the summer sessions, you will be studying with students from DePaul University School of Public Service. The DePaul programme (Masters in Public Service) has been coming to Dublin since 1999. DePaul, located in Chicago, is the largest Catholic University in the United States, and has a deserved reputation for non-profit management education. Our educational partnership with DePaul makes it possible for students of All Hallows to link up globally with programmes in many parts of the world.
