This 2-year course is an intensive, full-time graduate programme entirely taught in English and designed for graduates who are seeking an international qualification in Business & Management. Coherently with its focus on the international dimension, the course features subjects such as Marketing, Management, Economics and Law, all from the viewpoint of an international context. The programme is designed to help graduates to develop a sound grasp of theory and practice in this study field.

The course gives students the chance to analyse and understand the theory and practice of management in the international business environment for large and small/medium enterprises, respectively. A sound theoretical knowledge helps students develop pertinent strategies and decision-making abilities in the main areas of international business (such as strategy, marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, human resources management, applied and quantitative methods). In addition, the course allows students to analyse the competitive international environment from both an economic and a legal point of view.

In order to fully exploit the international scope of the programme, students are encouraged to spend their second year in one of our foreign partner Universities. The extensiveness of our partnership network allows the Faculty to offer students a wide range of double degree programmes, Erasmus placements and access to the EMBS network.

More information

Requirements

  • Minimum score of the 3-year diploma

1) Students with a 3-year university diploma or another undergraduate degree obtained in Italy should have a final graduation score higher than or equal to 95/110.

2) Students with any other foreign qualification considered equivalent to the above-specified Italian degree should provide evidence of a final graduation score equivalent to the Italian requirement (95 out of 110).

3) All students failing to reach this minimum entry requirement must have an interview with the teaching committee to show their knowledge of the basic principles of management, economics and quantitative methods.

  • Minimum European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) acquired in the 3-year diploma

Students should provide evidence that in their 3-year diploma they have acquired the following number of ECTS (in case of students outside the European Union, the equivalent number of hours of study) in these areas:

Business and Management (i.e. Accounting; Management; Finance; Organisational Design and Human Resources Management; Banking and Finance) - 18 ECTS

Economics (i.e. Macro and Micro Economics; Political Economy; Econometrics; Economic History and History of Economic Thought) - 12 ECTS

Quantitative Methods – (any exam in Mathematics and Statistics) - 9 ECTS

English language- 6 ECTS

A tolerance margin is accepted, which corresponds to a maximum of 11% (i.e. 5 ECTs). The margin can be applied to either individual or multiple areas listed above (Business Management, Economics, Quantitative Methods) with the exception of the English language, which requires no less than 6 ECTS.

NOTE FOR STUDENTS HOLDING A FOREIGN QUALIFICATION

The process to enroll for students who hold a foreign qualification is longer since they need an official recognition (by an official Italian authority in their home country) of the equality of their qualification to the Italian one.

First of all, they must be sure that their qualification meets the minimum entry requirements. They should write to the course coordinator (mibe@eco.unipv.it) with a list of the courses taken and the number of study hours acquired for each course.

After receiving a confirmation that the entry requirements are met, the next step is to start well in advance assembling all the necessary documents for enrollment (which takes place in October). They should contact an Italian diplomatic authorityin their home country and check the deadline to submit their request for pre-enrollment application, which is normally around spring time. The required documents for the application process are as follows:

  • The original copy of the University diploma (3-year university degree) suitable for enrollment in the Laura Magistrale, translated into Italian (either by the Italian diplomatic authority in their home county or by a translator out of a list provided by the authority). The translation should therefore be certified by the Italian authorities in the country where the qualification was awarded.
  • The original copy of the university diploma must be accompanied by a declaration of its value (dichiarazione di valore in loco), issued by the Italian authorities in the country where the qualification was awarded. Please note that the “Dichiarazione di Valore in Loco” should state that the student has completed at least 12 years of pre-university education.
  • An official document issued by the foreign university containing a list of the exams translated into Italian and legalized by the Italian authority.

We recommend students to speak withthe Italian diplomatic authority in their home country and check the deadline to submit their request for pre-enrollment application.

  • Knowledge of the English language

Students who do not have the required ECTS in the English Language (6 ECTs), should provide an international certification proving the necessary English knowledge. Certifications should attest a knowledge equal or higher than the B2 level of the Common European Framework (First Certificate in English). For example, a TOEFL certificate with an iBT total score of B2 level (87-109) or higher is considered equal to the level B2 of the Common European Framework. Students who do not hold an international certification will have their English level tested with an interview at the Faculty of Economics.

INTERVIEW

Students failing to reach the minimum entry requirements as well as students holding a foreign qualification must have an interview with the teaching committee.

The interviewwill take place at the Faculty of Economics, Via San Felice 7, Pavia, on 26th September 2011 at 9:30 a.m..

The interview will test the candidates' English level and their basic knowledge in the Management and Business Administration area. Students will also have to provide their reasons and motivations for wanting to attend the course.
