The programme offers students a real opportunity to systematically engage with the changes which are impacting on the qualified practitioners who are increasingly finding themselves in very different professional settings to the ones they qualified for. The teaching and learning offered here reflect these changes and offer the students creative opportunities for thinking about these issues. That reflective practice is at the heart of the MA underscores the importance of developing a knowledge base for a workforce that requires both a theoretical and practice related focus, and furthermore uses the process of reflection and transformative learning as cornerstones of building and evidenced based practice. Graduates from this programme will be very well placed to deal with the challenges of managing change both at a personal and professional level.

Systemic Youth Work explores how the core principles and methodologies of traditional Youth Work practices can be adapted to respond to the demands made by current policy agendas, and emerging issues such as globalisation and climate change. Systemic principles of connectivity, diversity and sustainability will inform the development of professional practice which enhances young people´s confidence, resilience and adaptability.
The MA has a modular structure that is programme over two years part time, during which you will take six taught modules and a dissertation. Each taught module will be delivered in a one week study block, Monday to Friday. This amounts to three study blocks a year.
