Location of University of New York in Prague

The University of New York in Prague (UNYP) and the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) have joined forces in establishing the Master´s program in European Law and European Integration.

The program offers a thorough grounding on European Law and Integration. It is a program designed for those who wish to further their knowledge and skills in the field of EU law, including its political, economic and social effects at the national and regional levels, and desire to understand the integration process and the intricacies involved.

About the European Public Law Organization (EPLO)

The EPLO, established in 2007 with headquarters in Athens, Greece, is an international organization dedicated to the creation and dissemination of knowledge in the area of public law lato sensu, including but not limited to inter alia national, comparative and European public law, human rights and environmental law and the promotion of European values through public law throughout the world in a dialogue of civilizations. It is a multifaceted organization as it aims at the same time at research, education, training and institution building. International organizations and states, but also institutions of higher education, as well as other institutions are represented on its Board of Directors. These include almost 200 academics and legal practitioners, leading figures in their field, appointed from 74 Universities worldwide. The government sector, including the Council of Europe, the European Commission, the French Council of State, Constitutional and High Courts, comprise the Scientific Council of the EPLO


Contents

The program is taught in English and has an overall duration of 12 months. It includes two semesters of compulsory lectures, and a social science research methodology course which is followed by the preparation of a dissertation. The dissertation is expected to be completed within six months. Assessment will be based on class attendance and participation, assignments, mid-term and final exams, as well as the dissertation.

The course is designed to provide a comprehensive analysis and understanding of the workings of the European Union. Subjects covered will include:

* Introduction to the EU (Founding Treaties, EU institutions)
* EU Public Law Fundamentals (European integration, fundamental principles of EU law, legislative procedures, basic freedoms, judicial protection in the EU)
* EU citizenship, protection of fundamental rights, immigration and asylum
* EC competition law, corporate finance law, corporate taxation law, EU law of General Interest Utilities, common consumer policy, intellectual property law, European maritime law, transport
* Budget and Finances of the EU- EMU, anti corruption laws and money laundering
* European employment law and social policy
* EU Common Foreign and Security Policy, Defense Policy, Terrorism & Anti-drugs Policy
* EU environmental and energy law
* CAP
* Public and Private International Law
* ADR and Arbitration
* International Protection of Human Rights and International Criminal Justice
* Global Administrative Law and Global Administrative Justice
* International Competition Regulations and International Business Regulations
* International Environmental Protection and International Energy Regulation

Additional Opportunities
1. Study visits

Students may choose to complete a study visit to Greece during which they will participate in seminars conducted by prominent experts and be introduced to the Greek and European practices on issues related to European Public Law and European Integration. Study visits may be upheld for research purposes. Students may make use of this time to advance their research interests or work on their dissertation.

Students taking up a study visit opportunity in Greece may make use of all the available facilities of the EPLO. In particular, they may make use of the European Public Law Library, the IT facilities, study and reading hall hosted at the EPLO Sounio Office, Greece.2. Traineeships

Traineeships in the EPLO is another opportunity during which fellows will be trained in international project management and participate in the everyday business of the institution, in the form of a vocational traineeship. They may be requested to conduct research of EPLO projects under implementation or on projects under consideration. They may also be asked to assist in any other aspect of the EPLO activities.3. Publications

A synthesis/compilation of research work undertaken by students of the program shall be considered to merit publication at the European Public Law Review or other relevant publication series or journals of the EPLO.

Requirements

The course is open to students with a legal background or a related background in social sciences (political sciences, sociology, history, public administration, economics, international affairs, etc.) in the form of an undergraduate degree and proof of English language proficiency for academic purposes. Knowledge of other European languages will be considered as an advantage.

Accreditation

UNYP is officially recognized by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports as a private higher education institution. Currently, four bachelor's degree programs are accredited by the Ministry of Education and lead to the award of a bakalár (bachelor's) degree from UNYP: Business Administration, Communication & Mass Media, European Business Administration, and International Economic Relations.

UNYP is accredited and recognized by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education as an institution providing higher education, since 2001.

UNYP is a member of CAMBAS, the Czech Association of MBA Schools, since 2003.

UNYP is a member of CEEMAN - Central and East European Management Development Association, the largest association of business education providers in Central and Eastern Europe

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) examinations are the most frequently recognized qualifications in Europe. ACCA recognizes several of UNYP's undergraduate courses as providing exemptions from some ACCA exams.

UNYP offers higher education programs approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs where United States veterans and their eligible dependents may use their veterans benefits.Specifically the four year Bachelor degree program, the Master's in Professional Communications and Public Relations and the MBA programs.
