Location of University of Bucharest

Romanian integration in the European structures means the alignment of our country to the International research programs and the application of new tendencies in taxonomy.

The research and academic Staff involved in the activities of taxonomical post-graduated cycle considers that for the Faculty of Biology the professional instruction of specialist in different groups of animals and plants is necessary and prioritary.

The precise knowledge about identification and characterization of different floristic and faunistic components is necessary for the development of ecological programs, for fight against pollution, in agriculture and control of insect populations and in integrated pest management , in alimentary, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industry.

The graduated students will be able to establish the taxonomic status of the plant and animal populations with the aim of identification of characteristic species for Romania and their valuation in biotechnologies, agriculture, medicine, environment protection, biodiversity conservation. Following the graduation of Taxonomy program the student could develop a career in different in biological research Institutes, museums of Natural Sciences, fishery stations, ornithological centers, stations for the treatment of sewage waters, laboratories for fungic and parasitological diagnostic.

A minimum of 100 hours of research and documentation leading to a dissertation is required. The Master of Taxonomy degree requires one advisor who develops a specific Plan of Work for the students, which must be submitted by the end of the second semester.

The Taxonomy Master degree is a precondition for PhD Thesis preparation.
