Active since 1994, this programme is addressed to students that wish to aquire a high and up-to-date level of knowledge and technical skills in the three above mentioned fields (e.g. genomics, metagenomics, human genetics, plant genetics, microbial genetics, population molecular genetics, epigenetics, microbial biodiversity in natural and human-made environments, advanced topics in medical microbiology and virology, food microbiology, microbial bioremediation of polluted ecosystems, microbial genetic engineering, industrial microbial biotechnology, bioinformatics, bioethics a.s.o.).
This programme offers theoretical and technical knowledge required for a PhD degree in bio-medical sciences or needed for a high level job in a bio-medical / pharmaceutical / biotechnology RD institute or private company, health-veterinary labs, environmental protection agencies, food control labs a.s.o.
It is organized by Dept of Genetics and Dept of Microbiology, in cooperation with the Dept of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. All these three sections have highly qualified personnel, strong scientific research activity and well-equipped labs.
Admission is organized every year during September and is based on a written exam and an interview. Problems to be covered for the admission exam is published every year during May in the faculty lobby (Spl.Independentei no. 91-95 and Aleea Portocalilor no.1, Bucharest), and on and
This programme has a well-balanced program of graduate study and research training that extends 4 semesters (14 weeks each, with an average of 16 hours / week) and ends with a research disertation thesis.
Each topic comprises of lectures and lab sessions. Lectures are given in a discussion/debate format and labs are organized as whole lab experiments ending with lab reports (students are taught to write scientific papers).
In the last five years the two departments - Genetics and Microbiology - have been working in more than 100 scientific projects; students are encouraged to actively participate to any of these scientific research projects where they can also work for their disertation thesis.
Scientific documentation is available for free at the Faculty of Biology Library, the departments libraries, as well as on the internet facilities.
