The Koç University MBA program was started in 1993 to provide a comprehensive business education involving a rigorous and innovative curriculum taught by world class faculty. It is designed to possess the best features of MBA programs offered at major universities in North America and Europe and adapted to the Turkish environment. The language of instruction is English.
The primary objective of the Koç MBA program is to develop business leaders for the 21st century. Graduates of the program are prepared for a career in general management, or in a specialized field such as investment banking, marketing management or supply chain management. Since the most entry-level managerial positions are in such fields as marketing, finance or operations management, the program offers the opportunity to concentrate on one or two of these areas of business.
Structure of the Program
The new structure of the MBA comprises two condensed summer terms, one at the beginning and the other at the end of the program, and two regular terms. The program enables MBA students to finish their studies in a year unless they choose to participate in the international exchange program. In the case of going to a partner institution as an exchange student, the program is one semester longer.
The MBA program consists of 54 credits and a total of approximately 612 contact hours. Total number of courses is 18, consisting of 13 core and 5 elective courses. The program has four parts, with two condensed and two regular semesters. Each of these semesters have been designed to capture the four fundamental components of the new program; namely, Introduction, Foundation, Growth and Launch.
Student Profile
The students who have been accepted to the program come from a variety of backgrounds. More than half are engineering graduates, such as Mechanical, Chemical, Electric/Electronic, Civil, Computer, Food and Industrial. Others come from backgrounds as diverse as Architecture, Physics, Chemistry, Pharmacology, Biology, and Translation. Social Science graduates from the fields of Economics, Psychology, Sociology and International Relations also find that an MBA degree is an invaluable investment for their future career plans.
Most of these students have acquired their undergraduate degrees from the top universities in Turkey. Some students come from well respected North American and European schools such as Boston College, McGill University, Purdue University, California Institute of Technology, John Hopkins and Bocconi University. All entering Koç MBA students have solid quantitative or analytical foundations, and a basic level of computer literacy. The average GMAT and TOEFL scores for the academic year 2007-2008 was 624 and 606 respectively.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
