The MA in Communication and Information Sciences offers a unique programme in which you learn how people exchange information, and how new means of communication can be used in a creative way. The approach of Tilburg School of Humanities is unique because of its multidisciplinary approach: you will explore the linguistic, cognitive, and social psychological aspects of communication.
This programme is intended for highly talented, motivated, curious and internationally-oriented students. In this Master programme you will encounter state of the art research in the broad interdisciplinary area of communication. The point of departure is natural communication: how do people transfer information between each other? To what purpose? You will attend diverse courses such as communication strategies, negotiation strategies, non-verbal communication, and computer vision. Through this unique mix of perspectives and research traditions, you will be able to work as a communication expert, and answer questions such as: What is the best way to present information to an audience? How do people communicate within an organization? And how can you influence people's behaviour through language?
You take a more than average interest in language and you want to broaden and deepen your academic knowledge. What you are curious about is the many different aspects of communication: what effects do words have, how do people produce language and linguistic phenomena such as metaphors. What is the story behind it?
This one-year programme offers four different specialisations: `Human Aspects of Information Technology´, `Business Communication & Digital Media´, `Communication Design´ and `Intercultural Communication´.
The courses in this one-year programme are taught in English and start the end of August each year. The programme consists of six courses of 6 ECTS, two research skills modules of 3 ECTS, and a Master thesis of 18 ECTS. From a list of elective courses, you will select two elective courses of 6 ECTS each per block. Besides these, in the first two blocks an elective research skills module of 3 ECTS has to be chosen. In the fourth and last block you will write your Master thesis.
