Location of The University of Edinburgh

This is a dynamic and comprehensive preparation for management and will provide you with:

* a solid grounding in the major management disciplines and concepts
* the opportunity to analyse and test techniques
* a true understanding of what lies behind business jargon
* the skills to integrate applications

The programme runs over 36 months, with classes held in the evenings (from 6.15pm to 8.45pm Mondays to Thursdays), with a normal attendance of two classes a week.
Crucially, the course is a taught programme: you have weekly contact with teaching staff and fellow students from a wide range of organisations, including many of Scotland's leading companies.

The central location of the Business School makes it very accessible - within 10-15 minutes' walk of Princes Street and with ample parking right by the School.
On completion of the programme you will be able to get to the heart of managerial issues as you devise and implement sometimes innovative solutions. All the while you will be refining your own personal skill set.

Contents

The Part-time MBA typically takes three years to complete and it requires students to be in class in Edinburgh for two evenings a week, plus the occasional Saturday, for each of the semesters.

A total of ten foundation courses are covered during the Part-time programme. Half are studied in the first year, three in the second year and two in the final year. These courses provide the thorough grounding you need for successful completion of the MBA.
At two points during the three years, you undertake integrative projects that draw together all that you have learnt over the various courses.

In Years two and three, you tailor your studies towards your career interests, through the selection of your five option courses.

Finally, your MBA Capstone Project brings all of the year´s learning together in a piece of work unique to each student. The topic can be of direct relevance to your workplace. A successful project can not only have direct business benefit, it can also have a positive impact on your career within your organisation.

Requirements

The MBA has an admission requirement of a 1st class or a 2:1 Honours degree from a good university in any subject, or an appropriate professional qualification, plus at least three years´ continuous work experience in substantial positions.

For guidance, a 2:1 degree equates to GPA 3.25 or its equivalent. Other equivalent qualifications can be requested from the Admissions Team.

If you have a lower class of degree than a 2:1 equivalent then professional qualifications with substantial work experience would also be considered. If you do not hold a degree or professional qualifications, you may still be considered if you have a very strong employment record demonstrating a high degree of responsibility.

Reasoning Tests

All candidates will be asked to complete on-line tests of verbal, numerical and inductive reasoning. If you have completed the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) during the last 5 years and your score was above 600 then you will not be required to undertake the reasoning test.

English Language

If English is not your first language, you will need to satisfy one of the following requirements:

* Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

* Paper based TOEFL - Overall score of 600 or above (with scores of at least 55 in each section and a score of 4.0 in essay writing)
* Internet based TOEFL - Overall score of 100 or above (with a score of at least 20 in each section)

* International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Overall score of 7.0 or above (with a score of at least 6.0 in each section)

* Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): Grade A

No other testing systems are acceptable as equivalent scores.

If your first degree (studied for at least 3 years) is from an English speaking university, you will be exempt from the language test, although you may be interviewed as part of your application.

If your first language is not English, but you can prove your education was conducted in English, you must upload a letter or statement from your institution stating that English was the medium of instruction as well as assessment throughout your first degree. If you cannot do this, you will be required to take the language test.

It is essential you prepare for your language test in good time and, if possible, provide details of the test date on the application form.
