Analytic philosophy means rather a style of doing philosophy, than a certain philosophical view or program; it is a style in which philosophers aim for clear and precise arguments. The Analytic Philosophy Master Program offers a study of this style of philosophizing, study which is done in a very analytic way. The Philosophy Department of The University of Bucharest has a distinctive analytic place among similar national and even other Central European places where philosophy is the main topic of study. The program provides both an introduction into the work of the foundational thinkers of this tradition: Frege, Russell and Wittgenstein and an analytic analysis and presentation of certain philosophical subjects and domains: epistemology, metaphysics or ethics. Other important contemporary works discussed are those of significant philosophers like Carnap, Quine, Davidson, Kripke, Rawls, Dummett, and Strawson. A special focus is given to various topics arisen within logic and moral philosophy. Conceptual analysis and a minute investigation of language play a central role in the courses of this program. The students taking the courses of this program are expected to gain a better proficiency in clear thinking, to master better conceptual analysis and to strengthen their argumentative discourse.
