This 120 ECTS program in Financial Engineering is broad, but specific, with an extensive range of electives to choose from so that students can tailor the program to their needs. Through their studies, MFE students learn how to combine modern finance theory and computational methods with a practical knowledge of the forums in which they can employ these skills.


Contents

The MFE provides financial education at the forefront of both academic thinking and industry practice. The program serves students seeking comprehensive technical knowledge of derivatives pricing, asset management, securities trading, market design, and risk management. The MFE is of particular relevance to those wishing to work in:

* Portfolio management and security analysis,
* Hedge funds,
* Risk management,
* Securities and Derivatives trading,
* Corporate finance and corporate restructurings,
* Venture capital and private equity.

The total 120 ECTS are distributed as follows:

- 3 semesters of coursework (90 ECTS)
- 1 semester Master's thesis (30 ECTS), either at EPFL or in a company

Requirements

Candidates should have a solid background in mathematical analysis, statistics and probability theory. Holders of a Bachelor's degree in sciences and engineering from a reputable university can apply to the Master in Financial Engineering.
Please be aware that admission is competitive. Only candidates with excellent academic records and references have good chances to be accepted.

Accreditation

EPFL offers 22 programmes of study leading to the master's degrees, in line with the Bologna system, either in 90 ECTS or 120 ECTS (depending on the program).

The programs offer great flexibility with regard to choice of subjects, trans-disciplinary perspectives and some novel re-orientation opportunities towards other scientific domains. A large choice of complementary 30 ECTS minors are available, adding flexibility and depth in the education of our engineers.
