Location of The University of Wales, Aberystwyth

The English Department at Aberystwyth provides an excellent intellectual environment for postgraduate study. The main University library is well stocked with standard texts and critical works, and the National Library of Wales, adjacent to the campus, is one of the UK´s copyright libraries, holding one of the most extensive collections of books and manuscripts in Europe.

This MA allows those who may not wish to follow a specified area of literary study to develop your own historical or genre `pathway´, or portfolio of modules in varied chronological, generic or formal areas, or to develop aspects of study that were particularly stimulating during your undergraduate degree.

So, for example, you may concentrate your studies on Early Modern modules, or women´s writing modules, or contemporary literature modules; or you may pick and mix a series of modules from different eras and genres in line with your interests.

Contents

Core modules

* ENM0520: Research Skills in English Studies 1: Methods and Materials
* ENM0620: Research Skills in English Studies 2: Tackling Textualities
* ENM0560: Dissertation

All MA Literary studies students will follow these modules which aim to provide you with a grasp of bibliographic and textual issues, and theoretical and historical debates, within literary studies. The modules will also provide you with training for research and writing of essays and dissertations together with the essential research skills and methods required to make effective applications to funding councils.
