This course is aimed primarily at graduates who have a BA in German Studies. It may provide a basis for those who wish to proceed to do doctoral work. Students will analyse a variety of German cultural artefacts (e.g. literary texts, critical texts, films, language, from the C20 and C21).This will provide them with a knowledge of the historical and social background of German culture in this period. They will also acquire a knowledge of the key developments in German culture and literature in the C20 and C21 and of the key contemporary debates concerning these developments The two core modes deal with key events in German culture and elective modules offer students the opportunity to learn more about topics such as language and power or the development of modernism.
