Location of University of Chester

This programme is designed to provide advanced education and training opportunities for the wide range of professionals dealing with clients and patients for whom successful weight management is the key to improving their health.

The World Health Organisation reports that overweight and obesity is increasing worldwide, in both advanced and developing countries, and is contributing to the increasing levels of non-communicable metabolic and mechanically-induced disorders such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, orthopaedic problems, obstructive sleep apnoea and certain cancers.

This programme is run in association with the National Obesity Forum.

Each module is accredited with 20 points of professional development by the Royal College of Physicians, London.

Programme Structure

The MSc programme consists of six taught modules and a research dissertation.

Each taught module involves a three-day intensive course followed by a period of home-based learning.

Five modules are delivered in Dublin, one module is delivered in Chester.

* The Obesity Epidemic - Weight Management as a Public Health Issue (core module)
* Causes and Assessment of Overweight and Obesity
* Dietary Approaches to Weight Management
* Exercise and Weight Management
* Childhood Obesity
* Research Methods and Data Analysis (Core module for MSc students)

Year 2

* Research Project

Assessment

Each taught module is assessed by a written assignment or its equivalent - e.g. poster presentation. There are no formal examinations.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Minimum of a lower second class honours degree in a related subject area, or equivalent professional qualifications. Consideration will also be given to applicants with relevant work experience, background knowledge and skills.
