The MBA degree is probably the worlds' best-known, most recognized and sought after graduate degrees. It´s a professional degree, preparing you for a career in business and management.
Degree business administration There´s no such thing as a `standard´ MBA. The kind of coursework involved varies from one institution to another, from one country to the next. But they generally involve studies in finance, marketing, information technology, human resources, project management and accounting.
The aim of an MBA is simply to develop the kinds of skills and competencies you need to succeed - from your first managerial role, through to more senior, strategic and executive positions.
Candidate profile
People decide to study for an MBA for many reasons - professional development, career opportunities, personal interest. It´s often the first step to a promotion, or a raise. In the US in particular, but also in Europe, it´s practically a prerequisite for the top management jobs.
It´s the kind of degree that takes a good deal of ambition, drive and entrepreneurial spirit. It´s a short but intensive program, combining theory and hands-on experience.
Most MBA students tend to be in their mid 20´s to 30´s - but age is no barrier.
MBA takes a multi-disciplinary approach, with a strong international focus. It´s made up of a series of courses, covering a number of different but related subjects: Finance and Accounting, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Projects.
To keep the coursework as relevant to the real business world as possible, we hold regular employers´ forums, forge international partnerships, and appoint lecturers with firsthand professional experience.
As an MBA student at The Hague, you´ll work on real projects, with real local businesses. There are also networking and recruiting events throughout the year, helping you forge invaluable professional connections.
Structure
The MBA program is split into 5 different `phases´. At the end of each phase, you´ll be expected to produce a particular end product - a business plan, a group management project, a strategic audit, and a business report.
Each phase is made up of a number of different `modules´. The modules all link together, gradually developing the skills and knowledge you´ll need to produce the documents mentioned, through a combination of hands-on exercises, lectures and self-study.
Phase 1 is only for non-business graduates, covering the basics of business. If your undergraduate degree was in business, your course will begin with Phase 2.
Academic Content The MBA course content focuses on the basic building blocks of business management - finance and accounting, human resource management, marketing and projects. The course looks at each of these areas from three different perspectives: operational, managerial and strategic.
Phase 0 The first phase is a `foundation course´, only for those without an undergraduate business degree. The modules cover finance, accounting (financial, computational and management), quantitative analysis, micro- and macro- economics, and marketing.
Phase 1 Phase 2 develops the knowledge you need to work in middle management, as part of a team. The modules cover corporate finance, management accounting, managing people, entrepreneurship, and marketing management. By the end of this phase, you´ll produce a business plan by yourself.
Phase 2 Phase 3 is all about how to be a successful group leader -motivating people, understanding group behaviour. The modules cover financial markets, financial accounting, organisational behaviour and leadership, research methods, IT, international business and managerial economics. By the end of this phase, you´ll produce a management project, as part of a group.
Phase 3 Phase 4 is all about managing strategic change - looking for new markets and products, pushing change through every level of an organisation. The modules cover international finance, strategic accounting, strategic human resources, strategic management and strategic marketing. By the end of this phase, you´ll produce a strategic audit by yourself.
Phase 4 The final phase pulls everything you´ve studied so far together. Focusing on hands-on exercises, it´s designed to develop research techniques and mimic real life situations. By the end of Phase 5, you´ll produce a business proposal and report by yourself.

The Hague University´s Master of Business Administration program (MBA) was the first English language MBA in the Netherlands to be validated by the Dutch (Masters) Validation Council (DVC).
Our MBA received a remarkable score of over 90% based on the Council´s strict criteria. The Council described our program as developing 'state of the art' MBA graduates.
The Hague University MBA now joins a small, elite group of professional universities in the Netherlands that have received validation to issue their own Master´s degrees.
In February 2003, the MBA study was re-accredited by the Netherlands Accreditation Organization (NVAO) with 9.1 rating.
