The Aberystwyth MBA programme demands focus, aspiration and commitment. To qualify for it, you will have to show that you already have experience of responsibility at managerial level and that you are ready for more. The programme enables you to reassess your career direction and reflect constructively on previous professional experience. It also enables you to share that experience with the rest of the group.
The Aberystwyth style is to make your learning a strong threefold cord: it brings together your own skills and experience, the skills and experience of others in your cohort and the expertise of teachers and lecturers who are at the forefront of the latest research into all the disciplines relevant to Business Administration. This holistic approach to management and business offers a variety of in-class and outside learning environments. In-class activities include lectures, seminars, workshops, guest speakers and career development activities. Outside activities include managerial field trips, case study visits, outward-bound skills development activities, managerial reporting and liaison with professionals in business and industry.
We offer small class sizes and a friendly environment to encourage communication and the sharing of experiences, opinions and observations beteween you and your colleagues. Alongside new knowledge and skills, as a graduate of the Aberystwyth MBA, you will emerge with broadened international horizons and a network of new friends and contacts in the international Business world.
Finance Expertise
Modules in Economics, Quantitative Methods, Financial Management, Financial Reporting and Financial Markets and Investment enable you to reflect upon and enhance your knowledge and expertise in the financial aspects of business. As with all the disciplines in the MBA, even if this is not your particular specialism, it will be the expertise of your lecturers and of other students in the group. You will emerge with a clearer understanding of the financial bottom line, and of its effect on all aspects of Business strategy.
Managing the Organisation
Modules in Operations Management, Human Resource Management and Information Management Systems are designed to enable you to maximise the productivity and efficiency of your Business, focusing on organisational leanness and health, without compromising the working and management relationships which are essential to the continued success of the organisation, to the quality of life of its employees and to the service it offers to its customers. The module will offer you the opportunity, often hard to find in the rush of business life, to reflect on the shape of your organisation, bow it operates and how it might need to change.
The Market Interface
Modules in Marketing Principles, Strategic Management and Project Management enable you to reflect on Business strategy, its application in your existing circumstances, and how you will operate in your Business future. These modules equip you to take on greater responsibility in setting the direction of your organisation, identifying its core Business opportunities and managing the implementation of major areas of corporate operations.
Networking across Diverse Business Cultures
We hope that you will enjoy the rich cultural diversity of our international student body as a great experience in and of itself: we certainly do. But in addition, you will be making new and important discoveries about the world of international business, the requirements of different market places and the importance of cultural awareness in dealing with business colleagues and customers from all over the world. An important part of any business-oriented postgraduate programme is the ability to network with other professionals from your year of study. This is fundamental to the Aberystwyth model, with significant networking opportunities offered by your experience in the School.
Leadership Development
Qualifying with an Aberystwyth MBA also enables you to become part of a wider network of tens of thousands of AMBA accredited professionals and to gain access to other associated MBA professional bodies. MBA students are leaders and significant future leaders. Studying the Aberystwyth MBA will allow you to reflect on the management and leadership style you have developed, in an environment where you will also meet colleagues who may have very different styles which are just as effective. Leadership development is reinforced in your third term, where 30% of your marks for your management project of dissertation will be awarded for your work on leadership development and future improvement plan.
