Fundamentals of Business and Management

The MBM begins with a range of modules which introduce the fundamentals of Business and Management, which will apply to any sphere of business activity – and, in many cases, to several kinds of non-business organisation. In the first semester, modules in Human Resource Management, Research Skills for Managers and Information Management Systems are designed to enable you to maximise the productivity and efficiency of an organisation, focusing on the working and management relationships which are essential to its continued success, to the quality of life of its employees and to the service it offers to its customers and other stakeholders. Other modules in this semester introduce you to foundational principles in Accounting and Finance and in Marketing and the Business Environment – areas in which, as a commercial manager, you will certainly want to have a professional understanding.
Advanced Skills in Management and Leadership

As you would expect, the further content of this MBM is strongly weighted in favour of understanding all aspects of Management. Management is a multi-faceted activity in any context, but what should also excite you is the variety of contexts in which you can apply your managerial capacity. Modules in the second and third semesters give you a thorough grounding in Management theory whilst also enabling you to reflect on and begin to develop your own talents as a Manager.
You will study modules in Corporate Financial Management, Supply Chain Management, Competitive And Corporate Strategy and Management in the Global Economy, all taught by lecturers who work at the cutting edge of research in Management Studies. You will also have the chance to choose elective modules which range from Small Business Management to Opportunities and Risks in International Business, tailoring your studies to your own areas of interest.
Leadership in Cultural Diversity

We hope that you will enjoy the rich cultural diversity of the international student body of Aberystwyth SMB as a great experience in and of itself: we certainly do. But in addition, you will be making new and important discoveries about the world of international business, the requirements of different market places and the importance of cultural awareness in dealing with business colleagues and customers from all over the world: in the UK and Western Europe, and in the emerging markets of new-accession EU states, China, India and others.
Qualifying with the Aberystwyth AMBA-accredited MBM enables you to become part of a wider network of tens of thousands of AMBA accredited professionals and to gain access to other associated MBM professional bodies. We believe that graduates of our MBM degree will be leaders in the field of International Business. A good business leader – indeed a good leader in any field – will always be open to new ideas, new people and to new ways of doing things. Studying for this Master’s degree will allow you to reflect on what your leadership skills are and what style of management and leadership you want to develop, in an environment where you will also meet colleagues from many different business cultures, who may have very different styles which are just as effective.
