The Graduate Certificate in Egyptology of the IEPOA of the UAB is in its fifth edition. Previous editions have been offered during academic years 2001-2002, 2003-2004, 2005-2006 and 2007-2008.

This new edition brings along important changes due primarily to the adaptation of the programme to the guidelines of the European Area of Higher Education (EAHE) and the restructure of courses of the IEPOA of the UAB.

In fact, the former university Master in Egyptology and the PhD in Egyptology (RD 778/1998) have been replaced by the new official Master in the Language and Civilization of Ancient Egypt which will start with the new academic year.

As such, the graduate certificate in Egyptology is the only remaining university programme, and it has completely redefined its objectives and potential public. To begin with, it will be a two-year programme instead of one as it had been until now.

Secondly, it will be aimed not so much at the university student who wishes to make Egyptology its profession or field of specialized research, which is the purpose of the official Master), but at the university student or educated public who wish to get a general training in Egyptology, more focused on the historical-cultural content than linguistic content, epistemology and other methods of specialized research.

In comparison with the official Master (MO), which it is a full time programme, the graduate certificate is part-time so that people who work may register. This programme is academic and does not include professional or research orientation.

The graduate certificate is designed as an introduction and general training in Egyptology, in writing, language and texts, as well as history and culture mostly. It is aimed at people who havenoprevioustraininginthefield, sothatitwillhaveabeginnerslevel(especially in language and writing).
