Astronomy, Astrophysics and Space Engineering is a highly multidisciplinary specialization based on research and designed for research and engineering jobs in space sciences. Depending on the program chosen, this specialization provides additional physics and methodological components that address a broad spectrum of the most current issues in astronomy and astrophysics (broad questions, major projects) or develops both theoretical and practical high-tech know-how in instrument production and development of retrieval, processing and data analysis systems.
OpportunitiesThe specialization´s Astrophysics and Gravitational System Dynamics programs aim to educate researchers in astronomy and astrophysics. They can also lead to other professions requiring advanced skills or know-how in astronomy, such as scientific instrumentation, science journalism and teaching.
The Tools and Systems of Astronomy and Space program leads to jobs at national or international agencies working in astronomy and other technological activities requiring a similar skill-set. Graduates of these majors go on to become facilities managers, systems engineers and eventually project managers. Some students go on to do a thesis on technological topics related to their stream in the M2 program (instrumentation or digital).
There are three second year programs :
* Astrophysics;
* Gravitational system dynamics;
* Tools and systems of astronomy and space.
Most classes are held at the Observatoire de Paris-Meudon and the IAP (The Astrophysics Institute of Paris).
Students in this specialization come from the UPMC´s M1 Physics and Applications major and grandes écoles (École normale supérieure, engineering schools), or have completed the 1st year of a master´s course in physics, applied physics, electronics, electrical engineering and automatics, mathematics or mechanics at other universities and have fulfilled the prerequisites.
