The MA consists of two compulsory modules: Interdisciplinary Research Methods: Approaches and Techniques, and Dissertation in Lake District Studies in which you undertake a 20,000 word Dissertation under individual supervision.
On completion of the course of study you will have achieved a detailed level of specialist knowledge in research methods, approaches and techniques in a range of research fields, including palaeoenvironmental studies, archaeology, history, rural studies, tourism and literature, with a specific focus on the Lake District. One of these fields would be developed further in your dissertation. In addition through the seminars, supervisions, and independent work on your dissertations, you will improve your cognitive and problem-solving skills. You will also develop transferable skills in areas such as research project design, literature searches, bibliographical techniques and data retrieval, data collection and analysis, cartography and dissertation writing.
Course Structure
It consists of two compulsory modules:
* NWRS 409: Interdisciplinary Research Methods and Techniques
* NWRS 408: Dissertation in Lake District Studies
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Applicants for the Postgraduate Diploma in Lake District Landscape and Environment and Postgraduate Certificate in Lake District Landscape should normally have a degree or equivalent professional qualification, but those with a genuine interest in the subject who lack formal qualification are encouraged to apply and will also be considered. Applicants may be invited to an informal interview.
Students who have completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Lake District LandscapePostgraduate Diploma in Lake District Landscape and Environment. Students who have completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Lake District Landscape and Environment with the award of a pass with merit may progress to the MA in Lake District Studies. Direct entry to the MA will only normally be considered in exceptional circumstances, where potential students can demonstrate a suitable level of expertise, including approved prior reading.
