The 2 year's HTI degree program provides fundamental knowledge from the psychological sciences covering basic themes such as perception, cognition, communication, attitudes and social cognition. This basic knowledge is then applied during the program within a technological domain of your choice.
For example information and communication technology (ICT), sustainable energy, designed intelligence or the built environment. The program focuses on new opportunities and problems arising from these rapidly changing technological domains and how these are experienced by users.
The program is based on three fundamentals:
- human behaviour, specifically applied to technological settings;
- user-oriented development of technological products and environments;
- scientific methodology.
As a graduate of the Master´s degree program in Human-Technology Interaction, you will be able to assess the viability of new technological developments in relation to human constraints, preferences and capabilities. This knowledge will enable you to play an important role in the design of new technologies, in which you place the user in a central position. After this Master´s program you will be able to find employment in various academic government agencies, companies and organizations, working in consultancy or in research and development departments.
These could include organizations concerned with telecommunication, sustainable energy, consumer electronics, the printing industry, the aviation and automotive industries or financial companies. In addition, the J.F. Schouten School for User-System Interaction Research in Eindhoven offers you an internationally qualified research program in which postgraduate students play a significant role.
The Master's degree program Human-Technology Interaction lasts two years. Each year consists of 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
The starting Human-Technology Interaction students must have a solid background in a technological domain. They may have a background in information and communication technology (ICT), engineering (e.g., civil engineering, electrical or mechanical engineering), or sustainable energy.
During the first year of the Master's program Human-Technology Interaction, students will extend their knowledge in more advanced courses in their technical field of interest. Furthermore, there will be a selection of courses such as artificial intelligence, neural networks, sound and image quality, virtual reality, or computational modelling of human behaviour from which the student must make a substantiated selection.
These credit points are subdivided as follows:
First year
Second year:
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country. Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test. More information
The general requirements for admission to the TU/e Master's of Science programs are:
- A relevant Bachelor's degree (or equivalent), based on a program of sufficient academic level and quality to be able to complete the TU/e Master's program in question.
- Sufficient mastery of the English language. In the case of the Master's program Medical Engineering, proficiency in the Dutch language is also required.
- Experience shows that students with BSc Grade Point Average (GPA) for the Bachelor's study of at least 75% are more likely to be admitted to a TU/e Master´s program.
There may also be specific additional requirements for some Master's programs, depending on the nature of your prior education.
Non-EEA students who are admitted to a TU/e Master's program, but who do not receive a recognised scholarship or a student grant from the Dutch government, are required to transfer a sum of 10,000 euro to the TU/e. You will be contacted in late spring 2007 by the International Relations Office concerning this.
