Location of University of Maribor

The postgraduate master study program of Environmental Engineering is intended to educate highly qualified engineers to work also in research and development institutes in companies and national research institutions. The contemporary based study program is adapted to reflect rich scientific research activity of academic staff at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, the program goals are also to bring the students knowledge necessary to continue postgraduate studies at the doctorate level. It is intended to provide students with deep scientific knowledge of environmental engineering, oriented towards practical solutions. The students will gain ability of abstract and associative study and analysis of problems in order to provide solutions and development of different disciplines and transfer knowledge to practice. The students will learn how to effectively apply modern engineering tools to solve most demanding environmental engineering problems. Such concept of the postgraduate master's study program is in accordance with common European orientation in higher education.

Students of master study program will be able to work on complex engineering and scientific tasks. The M.Sc. qualified engineers will have deeper knowledge and increased skills to solve most difficult engineering problems in industry and also the ability to work as a part of research teams. They will be able to seek new knowledge sources and apply most current scientific and research methods for practical solutions of different environmental engineering problems. They will be able to accept the leadership responsibilities and transfer the results of scientific work to practical problems. The broad environmental engineering orientation of the study program will generate creative and innovative potential of students. The students will also acquire complementary skills, values and positive self esteem, which will accompany the accumulated knowledge and add an important part to successful performance of complex tasks.

Master of Environmental Engineering will be fully acquainted with research methods, procedures and processes from a broad field of environmental engineering. With his/hers professional judgement he/she will be able to design, advise and manage technical solutions in the field of environmental engineering, considering also social relevance, ethical responsibility and criteria of environmental sustainability. The M.Sc. qualified engineers with broad analytical and scientific knowledge will find employment in almost all branches of industry, R&D institutes, independent companies, design departments, as project engineers, experts, consultants, managers and research team members.


Contents

The postgraduate master study program of Environmental Engineering takes two years (4 semesters) in total amount of 120 ECTS credit points.

The 1st study year (first two semesters) is the same for all students and contains 10 compulsory courses in the amount of 60 ECTS.

The third semester in the 2nd study year comprises of 24 ECTS of compulsory courses and 6 ECTS of elective courses.

In the spring semester (fourth semester) of the 2nd study year students select two elective courses in total amount of 12 ECTS and work on Master thesis task in the amount of 18 ECTS.

The elective subjects provide specific knowledge from specific fields. Students have to select the courses in the amount of prescribed elective ECTS points. Students can select subjects from:

a. list of elective courses in the study programme

b. list of elective courses of other 2nd level study programs at any university including abroad.

The course selection is limited by the following conditions:

o Half of selected subjects should be preferentially from the prescribed study programme!

o Students have the possibility to transfer minimum 10 ECTS points from compulsory or selected subjects from one program of study to another!

The Master thesis work comprises scientific and research work on a certain chosen engineering problem. The students have to prepare the Master thesis and publicly present and defend it in front of an examination board. The Master thesis work significantly contributes to the final student MA classification.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Requirements

The postgraduate master study programme of Environmental Engineering is available to candidates who have completed:

a) the 1st level study program (B.Sc) in minimum amount of 180 ECTS in field of technical sciences, production technologies, architecture and civil engineering, chemistry, chemistry technology, biology, mathematics and statistics, computer sciences, protection of environment, transports systems and logistics and natural sciences.

b) the 1st level study program (B.Sc) in minimum amount of 180 ECTS in other fields that are not listed in the previous paragraph; such candidates have to complete additional 1st level differential courses in amount of 15 ECTS before admittance; the 1st level differential courses are: Mathematic with statistics (8 ECTS) and Chemistry (7 ECTS).

c) the undergraduate higher education professional study program, accredited before June 11 2004, from field of technical sciences, production technologies, architecture and civil engineering, chemistry, chemistry technology, biology, mathematics and statistics, computer sciences, protection of environment, transports systems and logistics and natural sciences.

d) the undergraduate higher education professional study program, accredited before June 11 2004, in other fields that are not listed in the previous paragraph; such candidates have to complete additional 1st level differential courses in amount of 15 ECTS before admittance; the 1st level differential courses are: Mathematic with statistics (8 ECTS) and Chemistry (7 ECTS).

e) equivalent education abroad.

If decision about limiting the number of student entries is accepted, than the candidates will be selected considering achieved average grade of study at 1st level study programmes.

Enrolment in public valid study programmes, carried out by public and concessionary higher education institutions is performed on basis of a public competition. Enrolment notice for postgraduate study programmes for the following academic year is announced at least four months before beginning of an academic year.

Before announcing the notice´s content, the university must acquire a concordance from the government of the Republic of Slovenia.

Candidates for enrolment in postgraduate study programmes register within beginning of September, but latest till September the 15th. Candidates register at a University of Maribor member, they state their desired study programme, enclose evidence about fulfilled enrolment conditions, a copy of their diploma and diploma supplement and a short autobiography.

Enrolment in postgraduate study programmes is carried out at the latest in two weeks after beginning of an academic year, out of justified reasons, set by higher institution board also at the latest till October 30th.

With application and curriculum vitae foreign students need to enclose the notification of recognition of foreign education, which means that they have to complete the N-form (available at following link: and enclose the following documents:

1. The original final certificate of completed school and examinations (diploma) The original has to be LEGALIZED on the basis of: a.) the 1961 Hague Convention - with apostille affixed b.) the Authentication of Documents in International Circulation Act (The certificate must be legalised on the basis of local law in their country first, the last stamp from their country is from Ministry of Foreign Affair; after that they need to legalise this certificate at one of the Embassies of the Republic of Slovenia, which is accredited for their country);

2. Certified Slovenian transcription of the certificate mentioned above;

3. Photocopies of the transcripts or diploma supplement (copies have to be legalized);

4. A brief chronological description of your education.
