Location of Lancaster University

The MSc in Information Technology, Management and Organisational Change (ITMOC) is a one-year full-time programme. We recruit around 40 students each year from every corner of the world.

Programme content

The ITMOC programme looks at the development, management, organisation and use of information technology within organisations. Our programme content consists of a number of core modules such as knowledge management, project management and managing change that we view as being fundamental. We also provide options that offer students the chance to specialise in either management issues (e-business), organisational issues (digital divide) or in the technology domain (ICT infrastructures).

Overall, the ITMOC programme seeks to provide students with relevant skills and up-to-date knowledge to effectively manage IT and IT-induced organisational change. The ITMOC learning environment develops students’ intellectual and analytical abilities so they are equipped to respond to the endless stream of technological developments they will encounter in their work following their successful graduation from ITMOC.

Faculty

ITMOC is taught by faculty from a range of disciplines across the internationally renowned Lancaster University Management School and the University's Computing Department, based in the state-of-the-art InfoLab21 complex.

Careers

The cultural diversity, coupled with the differing educational backgrounds and experience of our students, provides a stimulating and rich learning environment. Most of our graduates are now working as managers, consultants, project managers and systems analysts in a variety of public and private-sector organisations across the world. A number have chosen to extend their studies by taking a PhD.


Contents

For teaching purposes we structure the MSc in Information Technology, Management and Organisational Change (ITMOC) programme into three parts that coincide with the three academic terms.

Autumn (Michaelmas) term

Students take 5 assessed modules and 1 non-assessed module. The marks on these modules count towards 65 credits of the 180 credits for the MSc.

Core modules (compulsory):

ITO.001: Interpretations of Information, Technology and Organisations

ITO.004: Systemic Interventions and Consulting

ITO.007: Managing and Learning in Project Environments

ITO.008: Knowledge Management and Information Technology

ITO.010: Skills Development: Negotiation, Argumentation and Presentation (non-assessed)

ITO.017 SAP

Plus one optional module from the following:

ITO.011: E-BusinessITO.016: Enterprise Systems

ITO.019: IS-IT Design and Innovation

MNGT 503: Operations Management *

MNGT 506: Financial Management * (not available 2010-2011)

OWT 505: Human Resource Management 1 *

Spring (Lent) term

Students take 4 modules, all 4 of which are assessed. The marks on these modules count towards 55 credits of the 180 for the MSc.

The dissertation contributes 60 credits towards the 180 credits for the MSc.

ITO.013: Dissertation (compulsory)

Requirements

Entry Requirements

Qualifications

We require applicants to ITMOC to have a good honours degree or the equivalent grade point average (GPA). We also accept an equivalent professional qualification.

We encourage applications from prospective students with work experience, although we also take new graduates who have the profile and personality to both contribute to, and benefit from, the programme.

Disciplinary Backgrounds

There is no stipulation as to the discipline of the undergraduate degree (or equivalent), though we typically admit students from the following backgrounds:

* A general management degree programme
* A specific management discipline
* An IT/computing related discipline
* A management information systems background
* A social science background
* Other areas such as law, languages, and philosophy will be considered

English Language Requirements

All ITMOC students must have excellent written and spoken English skills. Those applicants whose medium of instruction in their degree is not or was not English will be required to provide evidence of language ability, normally in the form of a TOEFL or IELTS score.

The minimum requirements are:

* An IELTS score of 7.0 or above, or
* An IELTS score of 6.5 will also be accepted if students undertake the 4 weeks Study Skills course organised through our Department of Linguistics and English Language.
* A TOEFL score of at least 600 (250 computer-based test; 100 internet-based test), or
* A slightly lower TOEFL score will also be accepted if students undertake the 4-week Study Skills course organised through our Department of Linguistics and English Language.

GMAT is not essential, but if you have completed, or are taking the test, you should send your score to us.
