Location of Lancaster University

The MRes (Masters of Research) in Management is a one-year full-time Masters degree intended for students who are planning to become academic researchers and teachers or consultants, and who wish to prepare for PhD study in the area of management. The MRes in Management has two purposes:

* to provide intending PhD students with a good grounding in specialist subject areas
* to provide intending PhD students with the qualitative and quantitative research skills they will need in order to undertake their research

Progressing to doctoral research

Students with an MRes can apply to undertake the PhD in Management at Lancaster University. To proceed on to the PhD programme at Lancaster University Management School, students will need to achieve the required standard (usually a distinction or close to) in their MRes in Management. They will also need to have identified a relevant supervisor(s) and gained their agreement.

You will undertake additional research training courses as part of your PhD degree. These will be determined with your supervisor.


Contents

Students will choose from modules drawn from the following specialist Masters programmes under the guidance of the Programme Director and appropriate module leaders. Usually students will choose modules from two Masters programmes.

* MA in Human Resource and Knowledge Management
* MA in Management and Consulting
* MSc in Finance
* MSc in Accounting & Financial Management
* MSc in E-Business and Innovation
* MSc in Information Technology, Management and Organisational Change
* MSc in Operational Research

What research training will I undertake?

There are 4 compulsory research training modules as follows:

MNGT 521 Management Research – An Overview of Issues and Methods

MNGT 522 Searching for Information in Management Research (non-assessed)

MNGT 523 Research Design in Management

MNGT 526 Research Methods

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a good honours degree. All programme participants must have a good understanding of written and spoken English and be able to write and speak English fluently. Those whose medium of instruction was not English will be required to provide evidence of language ability, normally in the form of a TOEFL or IELTS score. A TOEFL score of at least 600 or an IELTS score of at least 7.0 is required. Applicants who have not met the requirements regarding proficiency in English may be given an offer conditional upon satisfactory completion of a pre-sessional course at the University.
