This programme is an advanced Masters in Marketing Management aimed at graduates with some significant prior academic and/or practical grounding in marketing. It is focussed on providing students the opportunity to develop the skills & knowledge they need to embark on a career in marketing management. The programme can also provide the requisite platform for further study at PhD level.

The programme is unique and the class size is tightly controlled to enable the staff-student and student-student contact necessary for the forms and processes of learning required.

Bringing together leading edge theory and a unique perspective on the practice of marketing management the programme revolves around four key strands of learning

* Developing a comprehensive and profoundly ‘integrative’ knowledge of marketing
* Acquiring a critical perspective on the practical application of marketing management theory, and a deep understanding of the character of the real world of marketing management practice, the forms of problems encountered and marketing management decision making
* Substantially developing students ability to think critically / their analytic reasoning skills
* Development of the collaborative & deliberative skills crucial to effective contribution in marketing management roles.

The programme has an emphasis on marketing management practice and focuses on the key problems and issues faced by marketing managers. Throughout the programme a variety of projects and case studies are used to examine the integration of theory and practice in marketing management.

The programme is academically demanding but crucially the intense academic programme provides a dynamic array of serious intellectual challenges that are purposefully exploited in the development of your critical thinking, creative and collaborative skills. Our target is your success, and we know that these key transferable workplace skills are what make the difference to individual success out there in the real world of marketing management. These crucial skills cannot be captured in the classroom but come with practice – and on the programme students get a great deal of practice. The combination of programme design and learning experience is very special; as are its students! It is targeted to meet the development needs of aspiring senior marketing managers, just like you!

Contents

When you join the programme you will be part of a small class of well-qualified students [target maximum 45]. This allows us to adopt a student-centred approach to our teaching, where the teaching staff are responsive to the learning needs of the students, and where you work closely with all other students on the programme. This leads to a very rich educational experience for all those joining this programme.

The course comprises seven taught modules, followed by a dissertation that is completed in the period between May and September.

A wide range of learning activities are deployed. There is a greater emphasis on workshops and interactive sessions than on traditional lectures and you will be expected to contribute actively to discussions. Group-work plays an important role in the taught element of the programme and students work in teams on many different learning tasks and assignments. Students engage with an extensive business simulation and complete several online skill development programmes.

Assessment methods vary from module to module and include coursework essays, formal examinations, group reports, case study analyses and presentations.

Entry Requirements

The programme is aimed at graduates who have already enjoyed studying substantial amounts of marketing material in their undergraduate degrees. It is not a programme to introduce students to the subject, rather it aims to allow participants to enrich and to build on their existing knowledge as a base for further research/PhD study or for a successful career in industry or the public services.

Applicants are expected to hold a good degree in Marketing or in a related business subject with a substantial marketing component (at least 30% of overall assessment scheme). Applicants with good degrees from other cognate areas with significant practical experience in marketing may also be considered, where candidates are able to demonstrate a post-graduation intellectual interest, and training/education in marketing management. By good degree, we are looking for an Upper Second Class honours, or 3.2 GPA on a 4-point scale or an average of B+.

All programme participants must have a good understanding of written and spoken English, and be able to write and speak English fluently. An IELTS score of at least 7.0 is required (which we prefer) or we will accept a TOEFL score of at least 620 (or 260 on the computer-based test).
